Hi all.

I have a chance to buy two NIB Polish p-64s for $130. a piece each with three mags. I would really like a Bulgie (or similar) but I cannot find any distributors that have them. They claim they can not get them right now. They are not sure when they can get them again.

Do I wait for the Bulgies to come back at a possibly inflated price or do I snatch the P-64s at this low price and make due?

If you want the Polish P-64's, go for it.
If you want a real Makarov, then either wait or look for one.

Sources for Makarovs:
gun shows
gun stores
pawn shops
Gunbroker.com
Auctionarms.com
Gunsamerica.com
Trader boards.

Have you tried The Gun Rack 2 in Hopewell? They usually have a few Maks around. Or Bob Moates over on Hull Street, I have seen a few in there at times also.

It don't hurt to have a P64. You just add to the collection.

Tried that shop in Hopewell....no luck. Tried Degoffs, Greentop, Bobs, and even a few other places. No dice. I still appreciate the advice though.

Thanks Ruger. I called them (again) this time they said they did have one but its finish was not too good. They were trying to get $250.00 for it!!! I am REALLY leaning towards a P-64 right now. I have a buddy who can do a trigger job on it.

I looked on GunsAmerica (http://www.gunsamerica.com/search.cgi?lowprice=0&highprice=99999999&age=0&uid=&words=Makarov&state=All) today and there were a lot of Maks available, many with pictures. Regards. Richard :D

The P64 isn't a bad pistol, especially for $130. But it's very different from the Makarov in every way except ammo.

It kicks hard but is very reliable (if you get a good one) and very accurate (about 9 inch group at 50 yards) for a small pistol.

The double action trigger is so hard, it's about unusable.

Before you buy, check the action and especially the thumb safety. Some thumb safeties can't be moved and some are so lose they won't stay in the fire position.
It's a thumb safety spring and plunger problem.

I've got 3 P64 and like then but they aren't the gun the Mak is.
For $130 I would buy another (good) new one.:)

I have a P64 tucked in my belt right now! I have found that proper lube of the trigger bar combined with a little light polishing followed by lots of use make the trigger very usable. No, it's not a Makarov--it is smaller, thinner, lighter and easier to conceal.
Another Makarov chambered option--SOG has cz82's-- a 12 shot modern double action auto that is about the same size as a makarov. I am definately thinking about one of those.

I have two Bulgarian Makarovs and am very pleased with them. I recently had an opportunity to check out and possibly buy a P-64 at a reasonable price. Maybe it was just that particular specimen, but I had to use both index fingers (at the same time) to pull the trigger double action. Needless-to-say, I passed on that "deal".

Have a gander at my current project. Fired it for the first time today with relieved backstrap. My hand got abraded after about 20 rounds. Broke the sharp edge on underside of slide, now I will try it again. But first, I have to let my hand heal. THis thing kicks like a mule. But it carries really nice. Much easier than a Mak.

Have you seen what the suggested retail for these are???

$495!!! ;Q

SOG wants $249!!!!

Any shop that takes that suggestion is gunna have a LOT of CZ-82s on their shelf!!
