Just thought I would check in here in the Big Dawgs Club.
Yesterday I picked up my first .45 Glock. It is a G30 that I bought used from another GT'er. The G30 was on my short list of guns that I wanted to add to my arsenal. I could never make up my mind on what gun to buy next so I decided to just get the next one that seemed to be a deal. And the next thing I know, this deals shows up on the GT Classifieds.
The G30 came with night sights, 3 ten round mags and 1 nine round mag. A Sidearmor IWB holster and 3 mag carriers.
My previous carry gun was a G23 in a C-TAC. It served my well and I might still carry it from time to time but for now the G30 goes everywhere that I do.
I had planned on waiting a few days to go to the range and trying it out but I was just too curious to know how this thing shot. Yesterday afternoon, I bailed out of the office and headed to Wal-Mart to stock up on some ammo and headed on over to the range.
The gun worked flawlessly. (I knew it would, it's a Glock) I was a little surprised at the felt recoil. I had read different threads where people would compare the recoil on a 9 mm, .40, and .45. In a lot of these threads, some people said that they had less muzzle flip with the .45 than with the .40. I felt that it was about the same. Not really the "Push" that I had heard of. It seemed to have a little more recoil but that could be the difference in grip size from my 23. I didn't think that I would like shooting with the 9 round mag with it not having anywhere for my pinky. But I really couldn't tell a difference while shooting. I only noticed the difference while holding the gun and thinking about it. Overall, I am very happy to report that after function testing about 200 rounds (about 50 rounds of my carry ammo)I took it back to the office and cleaned it up and it now rides on my hip.
As far as accuracy goes, it is surely more accurate than I am. I was shooting at 25 yards for a while and then moved to 10 yards which is the distance that I do most of my shooting from. I wasn't really taking the time to try to get good groups. I was more concerned with function testing it so that I would feel comfortable carrying.
Today I installed a Hogue grip and it feels more like my other pistols that all have it installed. Now I need to go back to the range and see if I notice any differences.
I did get a blister and tear off some skin from my middle finger on my strong hand. I didn't notice it until I had left the range and was on my way home. I thought that it was pretty strange since I have a lot of experience shooting other Glocks. I quickly realized that it had nothing to do with firing the gun as soon as I went to load my magazines. OUCH. These things need to be broken in a little bit.
I do have a question.
I think I had read that the G30 slide is harder to remove than other Glock pistols. Is this normal? And does it get easier over time?
I'd post pics but we all know what a glock looks like.
