Ported Barrel Question

Do the ports neutralize the muzzle energy effect of having a longer barrel. If so is it a proportional thing.

From a physics standpoint there will be some velocity loss, which will affect your ME figure given the same bullet weight. I think someone's study awhile back put it at 5-7% from the same non-ported barrel length on typical handguns, nothing to really worry about. That said, it would depend on the porting, number of ports, etc., I suppose, to determine whether you could recoup that from add'l barrel length. I only found a couple of threads thru a quick Search here at GT, one of which also mentioned a 5% MV loss.
