Will all T/C frames accept the rifle as well as shorter barrels? I'm looking at one now and want the best of both worlds, rifle for deer (25-06) maybe a barrel for black powder and a short (pistol) barrel for fun.
Well there are three frames....
There's the original model, the newer edition of the standard (which uses the same barrels) and the Encore.
The Encore's parts are unique to it and will not interchange with the other frames.
But each frame will indeed allow you to mount a pistol or a rifle barrel; you need only install the proper stocks and go shooting.
Tip: DO NOT install a shoulder stock on a frame sporting a 10" barrel and take it to the range while some LEO is practicing. That would be messy to say the least...

A frame originally sold as a pistol frame can have a buttstock and 16+" barrel fitted for use as a carbine, but a frame originally sold as a carbine frame cannot be used in pistol form without special paperwork (AOW?) from the BATFE.
True or false?

TRUE-but it would be a SBR-Short Barreled Rifle. A AOW is a Any Other Weapon which all it is a pistol with a vertical front hand grip. A example would be buying a new Glock with the front light rail and if you were to mount a vertical hand grip on that rail then you just broke the law by making a AOW,But if you go through the paper work and back ground check you can make or purchase a AOW for $5.00 transfer tax to Uncle Sam. Thats cheap compared to $200.00 for a Fullauto weapon.
That is correct.
But in order for them to perform the status search on your frame they'd have to have the pistol 'in custody', because it'd take some time to find out if it was originally sold as a carbine or a pistol.
So unless you shoot someone with it or have it stolen there'd never be a problem.
Still, I guess that's why it's best to buy them as pistols, just in case...

I believe the Thompson Center Contender frame will accept Gen 1 and Gen 2 barrels only. The Encore frame will accept a 25-06 barrel, but I haven't seen it barreled for the Contender. Drop a line to Thompson Center and they'll send you their booklet...I've attached a website address for these guns, maybe you'll find something useful...
