View Full Version : Wanting a Long Slide...

The itch has been getting to me to get something new... no real reason other then just to have, a target gun and if time allows to possibly start doing competition shooting in the future.
17L, 24, 34, 35... who has what and why did you go with it?
I go to the range several times a week, put a few hundred rounds through my guns on a weekly basis and this gun will be no different... and since I'm looking to possibly compete later, I'm think the 34 or 35 might be a better choice. When not at the range it will be loaded for self defense use even if it's just sitting in the safe.
My G29 is my primary use gun now, the G23 has had a lot of range time/carry use, but now just gets taken out to stay fresh with it. I've owned more .40 Glock then anything else, but am wondering if I should stay with the .40 in a long slide or take up a nine? Which I've also used/carried a lot in the past (in other guns)
I have never shot any of the long slide guns and I'm not a 100% sure if any of my local ranges has any to try out... so any comments/input would be helpful.
Thxs!
I bought the 17L last week because it's like the 34, but not as common as the 34. Although it's not widely excepted as the 34, I'm not using it for competition shooting. At least not at one of those big events anyway. The 17L with a Surefire X200 has also become my new home defense gun. :)
The G34 is about the same size as a 1911, but about 13 ounces lighter and has one inch more sight radius. I prefer it to all other Glocks because of it's balance and pointing qualities.

So mostly 9mm's... I "think" thats the route I'm going to go with this one.
Home defense stays to the nearly 200 pound Mastiff followed by the G29 with double tap GD's... although being able to mount a light to this gun does have an advantage over my 29.

I have a G34 and a G24C.
I just bought the G34 a few months ago and love it a lot.
The G24C has been in my collection for almost 10 years and it is the gun I shoot the best with.
I do not consider myself a great shot, but with my G24C I can get all but 1 or 2 shots (of a total of 15) in the X at 30 feet.

I have a 24 and a 35 and I love them both. I shot them both equally. Thne best thing to do would be to try to shot a 17L / 34 or a 24 / 35 and see which you like best. I like them both. If you are thinking competition shooting for the future I would go with .40 cal for USPSA Limited division or use 9 mm for production division. Longslides are great guns. You can't go wrong with any of them.
I have an early G20 and a G34. While the G34 has yet to be fired beyond the two test casings, its feel in my hand screams "FIRE ME!!!!!!" much more than the G20, and I *really* like that pistol (G20). I had to fill/recontour the grip on my G20 to get it to fit and point naturally, whereas this 34 will see a change of sights, if anything. It is that good. What will my next Glock be? A latest-series G20. Longslide of course

I have a G20L in 10mm and /45 ACP / .45 Super. I love my 10mm.
In my opinion, you should go with a G34 or G17L, depending on personal preference. Why get another fast .40 cal bullet slinger when you could round out the collection with a classic, fast 9mm?
9mm, available anywhere, in mass quantities, and cheap. Accept no other small caliber substitute!
I bought a Glock 34 9MM pistol and after shooting it a few times (less than 100 rounds)I traded a friend of mine a old PPK for his Glock 35 slide assembly and installed in on the G34 frame. He bought a .22 conversion kit and put it on his Glock 35 frame saying the 40cal kicked to much. I could swap back and forth shooting both 9MM and 40cal.
I ran across a KKM 9MM ported & threaded conversion bbl with comp. and have been itching to try it out.
If you are interested I'd be willing to sell you the complete Glock 34 slide assembly with all the interal parts plus the barrel and recoil spring for the price of the KKM barrel.
If your interested I can e-mail you photos of the slide and bbl. It will fit all the full size frames other than the .45.
We're going of vacation the 8th of this month and will not return untill the 28th. So my e-mail will just set until return.
I forgot to mention the G34 slide has metal Aro-tec target sights (non adjustable)attached. I don't like Glocks plastic sights. I paid $75. to have them attached. They'll go with the slide.
Thanks,
UTCCOP

That is the way I'm thinking... a long slide 20 would be really fun, but I already go through enough ammo with my 29 in a week to shoot a 34 or 17L 3 times as much... same with the 23, might as well add a 9mm to my collection.
I have a G34 and G35 and really like them both. The G34 probably sees more range time because is shoots a little softer.
You can't go wrong with either of these guns in my opinion!
