I am sure this question has been asked several times but I didn't see anything here with my search.....which type of cleaning rod do you guys reccommend? Brass? or Aluminum? Do you use different type for handguns or longuns? What are the pros and cons of each?

I like brass for handguns and carbon fiber for rifles. Neither is, in and of itself, likely to scratch (assuming you wipe off any dirt), and neither has a flimseyass coating to rub off!

Neither one. Aluminum and brass rods are a soft metal. unless you wipe them down every pass you start getting carbon inbeded in the rod and know you have a file. Aluminum rods most of the time come in two or more pieces when you clean the gun they unscrew, they also bend. If you have a tight fit patch the rod well bend and rub the lands and groves as you go down the bore. So of the two I would choice the brass rod. Me I like the Dewy None coated Stainless Steel rods. Any gun if you can, you always clean from the breach end too the muzzle end. If you have to clean from the muzzle end they make muzzle guards to help protect the crown. Your other choice, I have not tryed, is the new carbon fiber rods. were like my M1A1 you can clean from the breach end to the muzzle end. The rod will flex, They say the rod will not pick up carbon and the flex well not hurt the lands and groves. Gun cleaning is one of those thangs that if you ask 100 different people how and what they use to clean a gun, you well more than likely get 100 diffenent answers.
