Just polling those that carry rope in your turnout gear.

If you don't, 30-50 ft of high impact narrow guage rope can save your life from an elevated position.

Ram a hole inbetween two interior studs, run the rope through the hole, tie it to a pole or halogen tool on the other side of the wall, and you have an instant semi sturdy base to make an escape.

FDNY stopped giving out rope to their new firefighters to cut costs, till the number of guys injured due to attempting/unable to escape went through the roof.

Now they give out rope again.

Our airpacks have an escape rope built into the waist portion of the frame.

I could see having some utility rope with you, but I don't have any in my gear.

Our new SCBAs have the escape system built into the waist strap which is handy but I still carry a 50 foot lenght of rope coiled up in my bunker pants pocket. Its great for lowering or raising items from a window or using it as a search rope when needed. In my opinion its one of those "must haves" for interior fire fighting.

As an Instructor I pound into my students' heads to always carry rope. I myself carry 30' of rope, 20' of webbing, and a caribiner. It has come in handy more than a few times in rescue and fire ops.

The other side of the coin is to be trained and competent in the uses for your rope.

Be safe out there.

I carry 30' 8mm personal escape rope & 15' roll of webbing w/ 2 biners. I run in a small residential town though, 20' should get me outta anywhere.

I carry 50' of 8mm rope. My response area is on the beach with houses that are elevated, so I carry a little more than some people. If I had to, I could tie off my halligan and bail out a window if it came down to that.

+1 on the door chocks.

All together I carry the following:

2 Pelican SuperSabre's
4 wood chocks
4 small rubber chocks
the rope/webbing & biners stated above
large wire cutters
large pocket knife (S&W Extreme OPS)
1 of those huge ass rubber bands

+ the 2 pairs of fire gloves, pair clean up (leather) gloves, pair of Ringers rescue gloves, the 2 CarbonX hoods, ya know the norm.
