Considering the purchase of a longer slide glock. What is the difference between the 17L and the G34 other than the barrel length? Price difference? Why would I purchase one over the other? Will use mostly for informal plinking and target practice. Just interested in a longer Glock because I've shot the shorter Glocks for many years.

If you ever end up shooting in IDPA competitions, I don't believe you can use the 17L, but the 34 is legal for that.

I could be wrong, but I think the 17L models have a slightly steeper price than the 34.

Nothing different on the frames, just the added legnth of the slide and barrel.
Like cmzneb said above, the G17L is not legal if you want to get into IDPA competitions (its to big to fiy in the box)but the G34 is.

The G17L is hard to find (somewhat)and will cost more. I like them both but I would say get the G34, unless you come across a G17L at a good price. That is of course if you do not care about using it in competitions.

I have heard of G17L and G24's going for $650. Thats seems pricey to me and I wouldnt pay the extra money for it. I bought my G34 for only $525.

FFcracker, Did you buy from Bob at B&H?
I am considering the 34 to start shooting IDPA at TRPC. I have been long time member up there since late 70's when smallbore rifle was the game up there. I have not shot 34 but have owned and carried 17 for sometime now. My agency has bought over 400 17's for issue to replace our A/F hand me down Berretas (HOORAY) it only took 7 years. I wish I could have got one of the original Glock they purchased with the KSC prefix.

Thanks, Joe in Fl (PSJ)

No. You can get aftermarket ported barrels that line up with the slide cutout.

Don't know how true this is, but I was told that the 17L is limited production - limited to how many they make during a run - and then who knows when they make another run. This may make the 17L increase in value more than the 34. Maybe someone else can share some info on this.

Sorry for the late reply.
Yes, I did purchase mine from Bob at B&H. It's the only place I buy my guns these days. Great prices, great service.

The 17Ls WERE very hard to find, not available new for years, and very expensive. I paid about $1,000 for my first one.

They are now available for about the same money as a 20 or 21. I just got one of the new ones. I understand they are gone from Glock again, already.

I find them quite a bit more accurate than my 34s and of course the longer tube gives more velocity.

No need for porting on a 34. I have a 34 and recoil and muzzle flip is almost non-existant.
