View Full Version : Colt Gunsite Pistol
Anyone have the full size stainless gunsite pistol?
is it a gun that is worth the money or do you wish you would have gotten a more customized 1911 like a Baer or Wilson? Love the look and that it is a Colt but would like some opinions.

I don't own a gunsite, only a Gold Cup but have heard nothing but good things about them. It is a step up from an Xse and unlike the Xse the gunsite is a 70 series gun.
Thats nice to hear. I was also wondering how the CGP compare to and XSE over all. The XSE costs about 850 and the CGP is about 1400. Is it worth the extra or would the XSE be the way to go and modify as needed.

I've seen gunsite's for $1100ish... but that was a blue finish. I looked into them at one point and time and couldn't find the reason for a significant price mark up over a Re-issue 70 or rather it wasn't for me.

In addition to a 70's reissue you get...
Smith & Alexander metal grip safety with palm swell
Serrated flat mainspring housing
Dehorned all around
Gold Cup serrations on front strap
Heinie front and Novak rear sights
Short aluminum trigger with 4 – 4˝ lb pull
Wilson extended safety lock
$100 coupon towards training at Gunsite
Two 8-round Wilson magazines w/metal base plate
The Gunsite seems a bit pricey, but if you were to do those mods to an XSE, you'd be into the gun for as much... of course then you'd be able to specify each modification to your taste. I love my XSE, but would like to have a Gunsite as well, if I could get over the look of the rollmarks, which I'm having (still) a hard time warming up to. Here's my XSE with a few mods that I did myself.

There were some things that I did not like about the Colt Gunsite pistol. So I decided to build my own, here is my interpretation of it.

Sorry about the really bad picture.
I have the stainless Colt Gunsite Pistol. I like everything about it except for the front serrations. I think it's worth the price tag if that is part of the question. My other 1911's include a couple of Ed Brown Kobra's (both stainless), a few Colt's, a Springfield TRP Professional, etc. All things being equal, I don't think the Gunsite is overpriced.
I have a SS Gunsite, my favorite 1911. Accurate, reliable and well worth the price. I was so impressed with this gun that I bought a CCO Gunsite.
