View Full Version : Problem with my 37...suggestions?
I've had a Glock 37 for a bit now. I haven't used it as a carry weapon due to lack of ammo. Now I have some and went again to shoot it.
I love the caliber and everything about it...but I have problems with it. I can't seem to run a whole mag thru it without it locking open on me. It's not a jam and it's not my thumb hitting the slide stop and it happens once or twice a mag. I've got 4 mags for it and they all do the same thing.
Now today I tried something a little different. I canted it a little to the left, not gangsta style but just off center of straight up and down. Not a single lock open on all for mags. I'm perplexed on this. Anyone have any idea or something similar happen to them?

There was a recall on the early magazines and the design was changed. If you have the old style Glock will replace them.

;?
Have you removed your slide stop lever for any reason? There are only a few ways the slide can lock open:
1. Empty magazine.
2. Operator thumb.
3. Bad slide stop lever spring.
4. Incorrectly reinstalled slide stop lever.

Oh dear, now I have to check my mags. ;Q Never heard of this one before.
Hmmm, maybe it's my eyes but I'm not seeing the difference on the backs of the mags. I'll have to take them apart to check the followers. Turns out I have 6 mags, 4 of them new from a distributor.
The slide stop was taken off not to long ago by Ghost Rocket (Arthur Viani, certified Glock Armorer)to install a Rocket disconector. Good call tho, I'll check it and the mags.
Thanks for all the help guys! Keep the suggestions coming!

Arthur may have installed the slide stop lever before installing the locking block pin. Lift up the lever and let it go. It should snap back down smartly, every time.

You can tell very easily if you have the defective style magazines. Just grab your magazine as if it was a joystick, and with the front facing you. Take your thumb and try to jiggle the follower side to side. If the front of the follwer has about an eighth to a quarter of an inch of side to side play, it is the bad style magazine.
I have some bad magazines and they will do just like you say. They will lock the slide back and you can't get it to go forward unless you pull the magazine out, and that in itself is pretty hard to do because the slide is hung up on the back of the follower instead of on the slide stop. Also, since there is so much play in the follower, at times it will be to far to the right(with the magazine installed in the grip) for the little step to actuate the slide stop. That is when the slide does not lock open after the last shot.
Ok, I took out and re-installed the slide stop as per DannyR, seems to be fairly snappy, I'll have to go shoot it and see what happens. I went ahead and ordered another slide stop spring anyway...
I also did Glocks&Ducs mag trick and found two mags that had sloppy (side to side movement) followers. When I shoot it later on this week we'll see if that doesn't stop the problem.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, they are very appreciated! Never had any problems with any of my other Glocks, go figure!

you are right handed - right?
even though you think your thumb is not pushing up on the slide stop I'll bet you that you are pushing it up with the knuckle of your rt thumb (or ????)
try shooting <a *******'text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 3px double;' href="http://www.serverlogic3.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=24&k=left%20handed" ***********="window.status='left handed'; return true;" **********="window.status=''; return true;">left handed</a> so there is nothing on that side to get on the slide stop - does it stop locking open?
I suspect that when you cant the gun slightly to the left you roll your rt thumb down further on the back edge of your left thumb and away from the slide stop
THE FIX? - keep that thumb away from the lever (or I suppose you could install a non extended slide stop lever - I have an extra one that I can mail you if you want, please send your mailing address to RustyRP@aol.com & I'll be happy to throw one in the mail to you)
of course all this is pure speculation.
Alas, I've tried that too Rusty. Left handed, isoceles with the right thumb all the way over on the back of my left hand. Had other folks shoot it too. Same thing..

Mark your old style mags with a dot of White Out on the bottom, load al the mags and go shooting but do not look at the mags as you grab them. I bet every time it locks back it is with one of the old mags. Call Glock and arrange for a replacement.
When I had mine replaced they sent them the same day and I sent mine in on the honor code. Glock will make it right.

The followers in the "bad" mags will move from side to side. They won't in the "good" mags. I've got 2 of the bad mags. Called Glock customer service yesterday. They put two new followers in the mail to me yesterday. Didn't need to return anything.

You may want to call them back and make sure that you shouldn't be getting new magazines. I'm not saying that the followers they sent you aren't going to work. But, when I called them about my bad magazines, they refused to send me new followers. They said I had to send the old magazines back because the entire magazines was redesigned, not just the follower.
Well, sad to report that, old style mags, new style mags, it doesn't matter. The problem persists. I'm gonna have to puta call in to Glock and see what happens.
Thanks for all you info and thoughts all!

They didn't say anything about it. I'll see when I get my followers and let you know.

Called Glock last Monday, got 2 followers (plus springs) last Wednesday. Tried them out Friday. They worked fine. No problems.

Finally!! Called Glock and spoke to Jeff in the shop. He suggested changing out the slid stop with a new one, which I did. He also suggested a new recoil spring, which I didn't do.
So about an hour ago I went to a local range, with a box of Winchester 230 gr. and two mags.
It functioned flawlessly! I want to thank everyone for their suggestions and help. You guys are great!
