Ok this is probably one of the most asked questions... where is the best place to get my gun refinished and what kind of finish is good? Now given I am particular about some things, I know I want a dark finish, then leave my hammer, trigger, slide stop stainless. Im pretty much up for anything. Also what shops will get rid of minor scratches? Its for my Stainless Caspian. Thank you very much.

I don't have any experiance in dark colors and have only hard chromed my weapons. I would think that Gun Kote finish may be what your looking for.

Thank you very much! It looks interesting I just wish they had more pictures of what they actually where. Not just unlabeled pictures of their work. Thank you again! Also, what is teflon coating? Anyone ever have this?

PS - I don't want to assume anything about your name Caspian, but when Dave Sample's online class builds their Caspian guns they send them to Gunsite for bluing.

Blueing (a very thin form of rust) is not very durable nor weather resistant.
A better finish that is also non-reflective is Black parkerizing (Park). Park comes in 2 types: Zinc (grey or greenish like on WWII guns) or the current Mils Spec Manganese Phosphate black parkerizing. Here is link to several 1911s I have completed using Mil Spec Manganese Parkerizing: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=18918
Park is much more durable than blueing; it looks great and resists abrasion/corrosion better than blueing. For a gun that is going to be taken to the range, shot or carried, I suggest parkerizing.

Since your Caspian is stainless it limits your choices considerably. Bluing and parkerizing are out of the question they will not work. You will have to go with one of the spray and bake finishes.

Disregard my last post.
HOWEVER, Brownell's Oxynate No. 84 blueing salts WILL blue some stainless steels; call Caspian & ask.
Robar also does a propriatary finish with a product that they do not sell to outside vendors; I believe it is called Black-T or something similar. Might consider that as it is quite durable for a sprayed on coating.

Well as everyone is saying to just get it bead blasted or pretty much sand it... is it possible to "polish" at home? What would you need or recommend to start it off? Thanks. Here are pics of the scratches.

Robar does have a Black finish although I am not sure of the name. Black-T is done by:
W.E. Birdsong & Assoc., Inc.
1435 Monterey Rd.
Florence, MS 39073-9748

You can see pics of a Black-T finish here:

If you choose just to have it blasted, you could dontact Dave Berryhill. He is one of the best in the business, just look up is name over at www.1911forum.com He also has a web page at http://www.berryhillguns.com/

I have to say that the two little marks in the picture are totally beneath my notice or concern. I would apply the price of a refinish to ammo or components and the time to DIY blend them to loading and shooting.
But if you just must have a dark finish, Robar can blacken stainless chemically and most of the various coatings will work.
However, any dark finish will eventually wear. S&W did some black stainless 686s that were very attractive when new. But with some finish wear they just looked kind of dirty, unlike the "character" of a worn blue finish.

+1.
I do not mean to be impolite, but if those scratches are of concern, you obviously don't shoot or carry concealed very often.
Personally, all of my guns are either fighting tools or interesting collector guns. A plain old caspian is not a collector gun. I'd hit those spots with a Sharpie magic marker & take it to the range more often. Check back with us when it REALLY needs refinishing.
Sorry if I seem offended but it seems as if you wasted my time on really trivial matters.

No Honestly they aren't that big of a deal as of yet. I am talking about in the future because it is my first ever handgun I bought. So being that I did *most* of the work on it, it means a lot to me. I do have collector guns that I do baby when I use them, but this one is just one that I plan to use and will eventually be refinished. And it doesn't have to be black or dark. Honestly im just looking around. Hence why I asked about a bead blasted gun and what it would look like. Thanks and it is going to have a 1000 rds put through it tomorrow.

Even if you get the gun refinished, you will probably scratch it again during a field strip. As careful as I am with mine, it happens. Shoot it......
P.S. My wife says I am anal about my guns. I am. But the scratch does not bother me.

Robar's black finish is called Roguard. I'm having it done to the slide of my Springy V10 UltraCompact. I'm sure they could bead blast those scratches off as well. www.robarguns.com

Like Quantico, I have had Black T placed on my original parkerized 1991 Commander and it is awesome. I'm not sure if Black T can be done to a stainless finish...

Yes, Black-T can be applied to any metal.
I have Black T on my Caspian and so far so good. Let's just say I am not the most gentle person when handling my pistols. Even so, no scratches due to normal wear and tear. I had an oopsie when cleaning when my slide tried to fly and it hit concrete. Of course, sights down....... Just a dent in the metal, no white showing through.
I also have a Wilson with their proprietary coating and it seems to hold up well as well.
I shoot 200 rounds/week, alternating my pistols, but even so I have 10k through the Wilson and 5k through the Caspian.
I must say the Black T cleans up easier than the wilson.

i can do it in six colors. moly resin coating. if you are interrested email me at fourrobert13@yahoo.com. i'll give you colors and price list. also my work is garranteed for one year and i do free touch ups.
Look into duracoat as well.
I just had a 1911 olive drabbed green on the frame with all black parts and slide.
The finish is tough, and cleans up very quickly without a lot of scrubbing, which I was really surprised about.
Here's the one I'm talking about
You can get it mixed for any color you like, including pink, yellow, blue, anything, if you want it.
