I'll be honest. The only thing I have ever competed with has been .45 1911's .45 625'S, and .45Colts. That includes some IDPA, USPSA, CAS and Bullseye matches.
I have never used anything smaller than the .45, and have not paid that much attention to other divisions.
I'm now wanting to broaden my horizons so to speak as far as using different pistols and calibers.
For the IDPA and USPSA what pistol/caliber can be used in the most divisions?
I have a Sig P226 9mm, but I understand it shoot's minor. Also with it, since I'm used to S/A trigger the D/A,S/A throws me off the first shot.
I have thought of the the G17/19/34.Or would a G22/23/35 be more useful. Or maybe a P226DAK
Any information and help would be most welcomed.

I think a .40, best choice would be the 35.. you can download and shoot production, you can make major and shoot Limited, L-10,.. and if you want you can mount an optic on top and shoot open if you like.. although i'm not to sure how competitive you'd be in open with it..
I have a G35 and shoot L-10 and Limited with it..
depending on where you live Production seems to be the hotest division these days..
That above is for USPSA.. i'm not sure where the 35 would fit in IDPA as i don't shoot that but i'm sure it wouldn't hurt you there at all.
good luck and have fun.
Jeff.

the 35 can compete inSSP and ESP in IDPA and in the 'Fullsize' division of TSA (http://www.tacticalshooting.com/tsa) .

So everyone is saying the .40 is the best round to go with to compete in the most divisions?
I would shoot that Sig 226 in everthing (IDPA SSP , USPSA Production) for a year and then decide if an equipment/caliber change is needed.
There are lots of guys that just shoot 9mm in everything and it doesn't hamper their ability to have fun and enjoy the sports.

MarkP,
I think I may do that.
The cost of .45ACP and .45Colt loads have added up to alot of $$ over time. More so than I want to think about, or tell my wife. Going to a .40 really is not going go help in the money department.

A DA 9mm will get you into USPSA/IPSC Production, where EVERYTHING is scored minor, so you are at no disadvantage there.
A DA 9mm will get you into IDPA Stock Service Pistol where everybody is scored the same and power factor is 125+. (Unless you mess with it too much and break out into Enhanced, but the power factor is the same there at 125.)
Lots of G34s out there. P226 and Beretta 92 fighting it out for a distant second place. Anything else is an oddity around here, but I DO like my CZ75.
A reloading press and a set of .45 dies will cost less than a new gun, but be less fun. A .40 whatever and a loader would get you into IPSC Limited where you would get beat by a better class of shooter.
