I recently purchased a used Springfield mil spec. It has had adjustable sights put on it which I have no use for. I would like to replace them with some type of night sights that are practical for carry. What night sights would you guys recommend, and will I be able to do it, or should I take it to a gunsmith.
Thanks!

Check out www.novaksights.com . It's best to have a gunsmith change out sights on a 1911.

Go with the Novaks. Also take it to a gunsmith. He'll already have the tools to do the job. Also if the slide needs to be milled for the Novaks, he can probablly do that to.

Depending on how the adjustable sights were mounted you may not be able to replace them with just any fixed night sights. If the adjustable sight was like a Bo-Mar you might want to contact Heinie as they have a fix replacement for a Kimber Adjustable that might be able to be fitted to your Springfield. You may even want to consider selling it if the orginal dovetail for the fix Springfield sight has been modified.
