I'm considering getting a brother for my G23 and want to go with a 45. I'm torn between the 30, 38, and 39. Does anyone have measurements for the 39 with the +1 extension on it? Is it almost the same size as the 38 then, but still with 1 less round? If so, what advantage does it have over the 38 or the 30 for that matter?
Thanks,
ViperDriver
The advantage of the G39 is to carry it without any extended base. 6+1 is adequate for personal defense, just carry a spare magazine. It can be carried in a pocket of baggy cargo pants or shorts. That's hard to do with a G30 or G38.

Have you seen any of the other sub-compacts (G26,27,33)? The G39 is the same size, but with a 9/100" larger slide width (frame & slide are same width on the G39; slide is lesser width than frame on the others).

sure, I've seen other subcompacts...But I've got some pretty big hands and am not comfortable with the grip on the sub's without the pinky extension. I'm just wondering if putting that on negates the size advantage vs capacity.

IMHO--NO! I think its just as good but, im lookin seriously at tradin my G27 for either a G23 or G38. Depends on which they have.
Side note: I unloaded a 9mm that I am selling this weekend and just now realised how tiny the rounds are compared to a .40cal/10mm round! I cant believe 1mm increase makes that much of a difference!

The way I carry it, the +1 extension does not make the G39 more visible while giving the same "finger room" as the G37. If I was to "pocket carry" that would no longer be true.
As for previous posters "side note" -
9mm frontal area = 0.099 in sq to nearest 1/1000
40 S&W frontal area = 0.126 in sq to nearest 1/1000
45 GAP or ACP frontal area = 0.160 in sq to nearest 1/1000 which is 162% of 9mm and 127% of .40. More frontal area gives greater likelyhood of cutting a vital organ on a live target or a scoring ring on a paper target in the event of hollowpoint failure to expand.

update to my last post-i did trade in my 27 for a NIB 23!! Whoo Hoo!!!! i also traded my crappy little Taurus PT111 9mm and the 27 w/ two mags (one had a glcok 7151). Anyway, he gave me $450 for both (the 27 was only one year old and had about 500-600 rounds thru it since i bought it in june this year). and then sold me the NIB 23 for $470. In the end, i wrote a cheque for $29.02 and voila! ITs all mine and I LOVE IT!!!! It feels way better than the 27 and now my wife can actually shoot it well too if need be. Only bad thing is that its alot harder to conceal on my hip in a FOBUS holster w. a tshirt over it. However, a good IWB is in my future!!!
