View Full Version : My Springfield is going back to the factory.
Well I need to send her back to the Factory. Too many problems with it and I'll let them worry about it there. They are going to reimburse me for shipping and said it will take about 2-3 weeks to fix it. Its pretty crappy, hopefully I'll get it back and it'll be working great.

I've sent my Springfield 1911 back before and they are tops in this area.My plunger tube came loose and also asked them to check out some rough markings inside the barrel, they replaced the tube, and fit/installed/test fired a new barrel.I was very satified with Spingfield customer service.
Sorry to hear of your problems. Have patience, let them make it right. Nobody can always be 100%. I bet you will love it when it gets back......Good Luck
What sort of problems is it having?
I'd suggest you stay in close contact with them. Twice, my two to three weeks turned out to be six........and it still wasn't fixed.
yep, thats frustrating :( I have sent one back, took about 4 weeks...came back all fixed-up...very pleased with the customer service
:)
A lot of failure to feeds. where the feed ramp met the barrel was very jagged and not smooth.
When it comes back I'm putting on a Wilson grip safety, chipmcormick hammer/trigger. Also going to replace the spring with a Wilson spring. Then its ready for carry. First I need it to feed correctly.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble, SA has a reputation for doing right, tell us how it turns out. BTW looks like you got some good mods you will do when it returns.

yeah thats sexy. I desperately want one of those. I am considering also just getting a S&W 1911SC/PD. But if my Springer works when it comes back, I'll keep it.

Had to send my 1911 back to springfield and they fixed everything, paid shipping both ways, and got it back to me in three weeks. Wish more companies had service like springfield.
I just want it back already. I miss it. Its been a week so far. :(

Yeah yeah... you know what sucks even more? I finally met a beautiful chick who loves shooting and guns. I need to show her my manlyness by pulling out a hand cannon, not my 380. I mean yeah it gets the job done but I need her to get use to large items that can go off in her face.

Be sure to let us know when you get your Springer back, and how they did.
Did they tell you how long to wait?
yeah like 2-3 weeks. I'll be sure to let everyone know about how springfield did.
btw scott we should go to revere when I get it back. Revere is like my second home. ^c

Women will be more impressed by a man that acts like one even when not carrying a gun....;Q

Springfield will fix it and stand behind the pistol... you might also want to look at an STI ultralight hammer / trigger / disconnector combined with an ed brown reduced weight mainspring... check them out at brownells... I like the STI edm tool steel parts... they have great quality control and come prepped well ...
Now this is what I call good customer service. Just got my email today from Springfield:
"Good afternoon. I am contacting you in regards to the 1911 pistol you send in for repair. All the repairs are complete. We reamed the barrel, polished the barrel ramp, polished feed ramp, tuned the extractor and tested it with no further malfunctions."
Thats good news

Sounds good ^c . Tell us how it shoots after the work .
SA has QC issues. My Springer's been back to the factory twice, and should have gone back a third time, but I was fed up and wanted to fix it myself. They overtorqued the grip screws when reassembling the gun and all my bushings came loose when I took off the factory grips to put my wraparound grip back on.
I had to retap the threads in the frame, and loctited new bushings into it. Hopefully, that'll hold them.

Can't wait to hear from you on your results after you fire it. Good luck.
Well I got it back today and did an inspection. Everything is fixed and they even gave me a new recoil spring. Im going to go as soon as I can. I also have to use my new Glock.

Did you cycle a few mags' worth of ammo through it? Just racking the slide seven times to see how it feeds / ejects would be informative.

No .45 ammo to rack through. :( I'll be sure to sling plenty down range though.
Customer service from Springfield has been great. Im just waiting now for my reimbursement check for shipping and then I would of had a great experience.

How long is the warranty on the Springfields? Does it cover anything that happens in the warranty period?

It's a lifetime warranty. Given that you haven't mod the gun yourself or from another smith, they'll honor the warranty on whatever is broken on it.

I had the same thing happen to my champion when I bought it. The repairs were the same. It FTF 2-3 time a mag before I sent it in and hasnt failed since I received it back from them. They tested it with various types of ammo and broke it in for me. Runs like a champ (no pun intended). I also want a lightweight SW. They are pretty sweet.
reamed the barrel?
new spring why it was already new?
These are the things I wish someone could explain.

All of the other gun makers need to take notes from Smith & Wesson. If a Smith has a problem and it needs to go back, they send you a pre-paid overnight shipping label. Doesn't cost you a thing. If the gun is damaged or lost in transit, they'll fix or replace it for free.
