View Full Version : Night sights BigTex171 09-11-2005, 20:14 What do you Kimber guys - or any others - recommend for night sights for my Kimber BP Ten II? Chuck TX 09-12-2005, 02:36 I put some Ameriglo (http://www.ameriglo.net/store_pages/night_sights.html) on my Kimber Compact Stainless. Really like them. Required a little fitting, but nothing major. BigTex171 09-12-2005, 08:39 Are those generally something that can easily be handled yourself, or should they be installed by a smith? Benelli Boy 09-12-2005, 15:58 Heinie  Chuck TX 09-12-2005, 23:04 Did it myself. Just a little filing. May not require any for a newer fullsized model, I was doing it for an older compact Kimber. Happy G 09-13-2005, 13:21 How much do you want to spend? I just put Novaks on my Tactical II. Great sights but quite expensive. Why not just the regular Kimber\Mepo's? BigTex171 09-13-2005, 17:39 Originally posted by Happy G Why not just the regular Kimber\Mepo's? How much do those run? Happy G 09-14-2005, 06:22 You may purchase from and have installed by Kimber for $105.00. But, you should be able to find the Meprolights for less than $100.00, more like 85-90. BigTex171 09-14-2005, 09:03 Are they easy enough to install on your own, or is it recommended to have a gunsmith do it? Happy G 09-14-2005, 10:48 I prefer a smith. Tritium vials can be broken. I'd rather have someone else break 'em. Any good smith can do the job very easily. Remember that there is a spring under your rear sight if your Kimber is a series II for the internal firing pin block. BigTex171 09-14-2005, 12:28 Originally posted by Happy G I prefer a smith. I am looking at going with Meprolights since it looks like that is what Kimber recommends. Chuck TX 09-15-2005, 00:12 Yeah, if you do it yourself don't lose the Series II firing pin safety spring. I'd always sworn that my best friends Series I of the same model (compact stainless) shot better. The only diference was the the firing pin safety, so I purposely left it out (the spring). Shot 'em back to back, and with the spring removed you couldn't tell the difference between the two. Bad part is I don't know where in the heck the spring is now, so I couldn't put it back in if I wanted to. Guess it's a Series I.5 now. doughboy18718 09-17-2005, 19:07 I am a big fan of the XS Big Dot night sights. I have a set on my Glock, and am having a set installed on my Kimber Ultra carry right now. WJR 09-17-2005, 20:20 Heinie. The Straight 8 Slant Pros are excellent. WJR 6285108 09-18-2005, 02:38 Check out www.yost-bonitz.com they have an excellent new sight design..as good as Heinie if you can believe that WJR 09-18-2005, 19:38 The Yost-Bonitz sights look very appealing. I have heard good things about the big dots.... however several friends that shoot in IDPA / IPSC have not liked the huge dots when shooting at ranges 20 yards..+. and up as the sights make accurate shots difficult when the targets look small... Do you shoot at 20 -25 yards often ??? and how do the sights work for you at those ranges... ??? M1Garand 09-21-2005, 17:28 Mepro and Kovac both make good night sights. Kimber factory is also pretty nice ($110). tag 09-22-2005, 07:07 Originally posted by quantico I have heard good things about the big dots.... however several friends that shoot in IDPA / IPSC have not liked the huge dots when shooting at ranges 20 yards..+. and up as the sights make accurate shots difficult when the targets look small... Big dots are designed for fast target acquisition at fighting distances, not target practice at long ranges. I agree that they do not work well at 25 yards, but they weren't designed to. They DO work well at 7-10 yards. I have some Ameriglo Operators on my G35 and I like them quite a bit. Unfortunately, I don't think they make that model for the 1911. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
