View Full Version : G36 compared to G29
I have a G29 that I use for woods walking in Colorado as well as CCW. I find it kind of bulky for the latter purpose. Is the G36 noticebly thinner and more comfortable for IWB carry? I've looked at the specs but all I can really tell is that the 36 is about half way in thickness between a 1911 (another candidate) and the G29. Thanks.
Hard to compare a single stack 45acp to a double stack 10mm. I'd feel very comfortable with the G30 or G29. The jury is still out on the 36. I have shot one and find it nice. I still prefer my G30 over the G36. Now I want the 21, 20 and 29. :)
Well, what I'm trying to do is compare them sizewise -- I think they are both comparable defensive pistols. Is the 36 really that much thinner than my 29 to make it a more comfortable carry gun? I find the 29 kind of thick for IWB but maybe that's just me.

Yes, the 36 is a lot thinner. In fact, the G36 slide is thinner than the G26 slide. I'd definitely recommend carrying two extra magazines though.

I have recently picked up boh a g30 (same size as g29) and a g36. Have about a hundred rounds through the g30 and 50 rounds through the g36 so I'm not speaking from experience on this.
I do not have a holster for the g30 but just stuck in my belt at 4 o'clock it feels relatively hefty and thick. Easier to carry than my 5" 1911 but not nearly as comfortable as the g36.
I have a ctac for the g36 and it feels very light and comfortable. I have a g26 in a milt sparks watch 6 and the g36 feels more comfortable than the 26 even in the top end holster.
If concealibility is a big part of your question then the 36 should be up there on your list. Not to mention .45 probably being a bit easier on the wallet than 10mm.
Just my $.02

Thanks! That's what I was looking for. I handled a 36 today and it is MUCH less bulky than my 10mm. My only concern now is some of the posts I've seen regarding the reliability. Looking at the ramp, it's definitely shaped different than my 10mm. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? Ergonomically, this is the best fitting Glock (for me) I've seen yet. I'd love to see a full size version with 5" barrel and nine shot magazine!
