Springfield Armory Mil-Spec

I was at Bass Pro tonight looking at the firearms. It's great they sell semi-autos now. Anyways, I was looking at the 1911's and noticed they had a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec .45 for $500. Is this a good price for a this gun? I know it's not a Kimber or anything like that, but I'm not looking to spend that kind of money on one. Just something for the range, and I've always loved the looks of a 1911.

I loved the way that it felt in my hand, felt pretty natural. The only thing I didn't like is the slide release lever. Is there anything that can bring it back further? It seemed like I had to reach pretty far to push it down.

Also, what is the main difference between the Mil-Spec and the G.I. .45? I think that G.I is around 400 at a local gun shop. Is it worth the extra $100 for the Mil-Spec?

I'd say 500 is a decent price for a mil-spec. Parkarized I am guessing.

If I recall the WW2 does not have a lowered and flared ejection port, not sure if anything else though. I might be wrong.

The Mil-Spec (which isn't really) has slanted slide serrations, beveled magazine well, lowered ejection port, and bigger sights than the more nearly correct GI. I don't know if any of that stuff is worth the price difference to you, but I know I cannot see the GI sights well enough for any kind of accuracy.

Extended slide stops are available but are not a good idea. The added mass and length just makes them likely to engage before the magazine is empty. Learn to depress the slide stop with your left thumb (if you are right handed.)

I looked at both before purchasing and I thought the Mil-Spec was worth the extra money. I definately liked the sights better on the Mil-Spec. I think I paid $450.00 for mine.

That seems fairly in-line with the pricing I've seen on the Mil-spec. It might be just a touch on the high side, but nothing I'd worry about.

I definitely like the Mil-spec over the G.I. model. The sights alone make the Mil-spec worth it for me, let alone all the other changes. If you're just looking for a WW2 clone, however, the G.I. is definitely a closer replica.
