View Full Version : G21 diasppointment
I have an older G21 (gen 2) I picked up a couple of months ago, and it has a horrible habit of shooting high and right. The groups are consistent, so it's not like it's throwing rounds all over, just impacts where I DON'T want it to. My observations:
1. None of my other Glocks are shooting this way, so I'm convinced it's not a problem with shooting Glocks vs my other pistols
2. Refering to the "wheel", high & right indicates too tight a grip - which I'm consciously trying to avoid
3. I tried resting the gun on a support and taking my time with each shot...group got tighter, but still unacceptable at 1 o'clock
FYI all this was happening at 15 yards, top of sight centered on target (I prefer POA=POI rather than "6 o'clock"). The sights are 3-dot Trijicons, same as on my G22 that shoots beautifully, and the rear sight appears perfectly centered - would be suprised that it would potentially need to be drifted to the left. Even if it did, it would still be shooting too high. I'm using Miwall's factory reloads, .45 I've been using for a number of years in other pistols with no accuracy problems at all.
Thoughts? Thanks!!

Sounds like you need to drift the rear sight to the left and get a taller sight for the front. Glock factory sights come in 2 sizes for the front for different frame sizes. I'm not sure how Trijicon sights are set up for Glocks but it sounds like you have one that is to short in the front and not all rear sight are perfectly centered to hit the bulls eye. The rear sight on my G21 is a hair to the right of center and it shoots fine.
don't tread on me

put some good steel sights on the gun, Glock plastic sights are the weak link!

Don't use Miwall ammo either...use QUALITY ammunition;) My G21 will print nickel and dime-sized groups with Federal, Winchester, Hornady, Speer and CCI ammo provided I do my part.

It's a machine...the problem is 99.9% more likely to be operator error than mechanical error.

How about trying to maintain the same sight picture, trigger squeeze and shooting position for each round? I found when I consciously focus on the fundamentals, I get much better performance out of my weapons. I honestly think that part of the issue is ammo, there have been a lot of issues in my area with Miwall QC, so much so that the indoor range I frequent recommends against it in ANY firearm. If you have the $$$ available, you might consider investing in some Black Hills or Hornady (traditionally very accurate) and do some accuracy testing or have someone else shoot it to determine whether the sights need to be adjusted or it is a personal, shooter related issue. Keep us posted!:)
If you aren't haveing the same probelm with your other guns or other Glocks then it is a sight alignment problem.
With a fixed sighted gun not all loads are going to shoot to the point of aim. (that's why they make adjustable sights so you can change them for various loads)
Even if the rear sight appears to be centered it still may need to be adjusted by drifting it one way or the other to get it to shoot to point of aim with different ammo.
You really have 3 choices at this point.
1. You can do as boze2043 said and adjust your sights.
2. Or do as jeremy54b said and try different ammo to see if it shoots to point of aim.
3. You can sell that piece of junk G21 to someone else. I'll give you $100 for it since it's so inaccurate.

Hey - sounds like a winner! LOL - no thanks, vafish;)
Gang - thanks for your input on this. I managed to drift the rear sight to the left about a mm - will report back once I have a chance to try it out again. FWIW, I'm covinced it's 90% the sights and 10% me, since I'm not as used to shooting the larger frame Glocks, but overall I consider myself a decent pistol shot.
