I took my new MC Operator to the range in Saturday and put her through the paces. This is my first 1911, but I've been shooting HKs and Glocks for 10+ years.
I shot 300 rounds of 230gr. WWB and 50 rounds of Hydrashok 230gr. +P JHP without a single hiccup. This is with both supplied 7 round magazines, one Shooting Star 8-rounder, and four Wilson 47D 8-rounders. Every time I pulled the trigger, it went "Bang!". I can't tell you how happy I am that it seems I've gotten "one of the good" 1911s out there that's 100% reliable out of the box.
I was putting 32 rounds into a quarter sized hole at 10 yards, which tells me the pistol shoots at least as good as me. The groups were about 1" high at this distance, making my target look like it had an 8 instead of a bullseye.
One thing I noted is that this 42 ounce behemoth has more felt recoil than my little 25 ounce Glock 30. I've heard that the G30s recoil system makes it kick even less than a full size G21, but I was expecting the MC Operator to feel soft by comparison. With the +P loads this thing REALLY hops in your hands!
Overall, I don't think I could have made a better purchase. I've got an Insight M3X light on the way, then this bad boy will take it's place in my bedside safe ready to defend me and mine.
One question I have for you 1911 guys is how wet do you keep your guns? I lubed the hell out of it for this range trip with CLP (the aerosol type!), but I'm wondering how much lube to use on a regular basis. I know with Glocks you only need 4-5 drops on the whole gun, but I also know that the two are different animals all together so any advice would be appreciated.
