Is it me or I'm just imagining things, but it seems like manufacturers are returning to the naming of model lines instead of alphanumeric designations?

I don't know about you guys, but model names are neater than alphanumerics. I mean, how can something like CBR-RR, FZR-R, XLHR, VRSC, R1150R, 999R, F4, ZZR, ZRX, ad nauseaum, thrill you?

Give us Lightning, Thunderbolt, Street Rod, Katana, Hurricane, Ninja, Rockster, Roadster, Corsaro, Mille, Tuono, Blackbird, Hayabusa, Brutale, Speed Triple, Commando, Black Shadow, Monster, Eight Ball, Hammer...

"What do you ride?"

"A Fireblade!"

Wouldn't that be cooler than this reply, "CBR-1000RR"? Say "RR" often enough and you can try out for a part of the seals & sea otter show at Sea World.

Of course, some names are too stupid to be had. CityX is one of them. Vegas is another.

In my case Bandit 1200 beats Suzuki gsf1200K1 by a mile
Some of my Favs: All good Bikes to own or Ride
Triumph: Bonneville,Tiger and Trophy
Norton: Commando
Suzuki: X6 Hustler,Titan
Honda: 305 Superhawk,Dream Touring
Indian: Scout, Chief
Kawasaki: 500 Mach 111,mach 4
Yamaha: Big Bear Scramblers

Numbers are for engineers and bankers. Names are for Bikeriders
Good Luck and Ride Safe

I hate to say it, but HD, has good names. Fatboy, Lowrider, Wideglide, V-Rod.

I do kinda hate saying I have a YZF-600R. Yamaha Blackhawk just sounds cooler.

Remember that commercial?
Even the Ninja knows to hide from the Hurricane.
(Hurricanes were all hype....... but it was still a cool commercial)
.
And who could forget the Hodaka "Combat Wombat", "Dirt Squirt", "Super Rat", "Road Toad", "Super Combat"?
Talk about cool names.

Not to mention SuperDuke.;)

If and when the damn thing gets over to the US, I'd buy one and have somebody paint a picture of John Wayne on it or something.

I just end up saying nickmanes for them, or shortening them, like Gixxer, F2, F3, F4, double R 6, 9,29,54, grand, Can-a-tuna 6,7,11, Kaw 7R, 9R, etc. Heard about a Hayabusa 600 coming out based on the '04 Gixxer 6 motor. That bothers me, cause I hear what you are saying. I mean "Hayabusa" means something, now it's just generic.

my first bike was a can-o-tuna. . .

Now it's hard to NOT call my new bike what it really is.

NOT a can-o-tuna ;f

YZF-750 I named it Maggie.

I'm glad they are paying engineers to make the bikes better rather than marketing pogues to name them better.

I agree with Nosferatu. . .

A better bike is WELL worth having to stumble over the letter/number combination.

Besides, saying all those numbers is kinda fun sometimes.

here's maybe a good offset of this, but to illustrate a valid point: German engineers put a pen holder in the new VW Beetle. The PR guys turned it into a flower vase.

It's all in how you use it: I don't think that Rossi, Hayden, or Haga are going to mind riding too much in the new Kawa-onda butt-rocket IF they win the races. They'll say that the bikes run good and that they have good engineers. Call it a dirt ninja, spud-wanker, whatever.

Fast is Fast.

Oh sweet Jesus, how hard is it to peruse a dictionary?
I sure hope it doesn't chop $1.2m out of the R&D budget.

If they generated more sales, I bet it'd get a bigger budget for the R&D people.
