View Full Version : Flash vs. stealth

I've narrowed my gun search down to the all-steel K9 series. I know I want the shorter pull of the Elite trigger--I don't like looooong trigger pulls. But I also kind of wanted an all black gun for maximum concealment potential. But Kahr's all black K9 only comes with the standard long trigger pull. And while the very sweet K9 Elite 2003 comes with the short trigger, it only comes in the very flashy bright stainless steel. So my question is, is going all black really a significant concern from the tactical perspectives of both concealment and surprise?
Thanks for your help

I would not be too concerned about the "flash" of the stainless models. The regular stainless are matte and have no glare. The elite's concern for me would be sunlight/bright light on slide when trying to see front sight. For open carry or light concealment I like the all black. But for my BUG style carry (MK40) I like the stainless. Also, many have said for $30 you can put an elite trigger in any of the guns.

Only the sides are polished on the Elite Kahrs... eveything else (including the top of the slide) is still matte. ^c
Patroit ST, I wouldn’t worry about defensive guns that aren’t all black… it just plain isn’t a big deal.

Since your weapon is hidden under a suitable garment or in an appropriate carrier such as planner, waist pack, etc., color and gloss play no role whatsoever.
The published difference in the trigger stroke distance is 1/8 inch. Not alot of difference. I have both elite triggers and regular triggers in my various Kahrs. Don't notice enough of a difference to worry about. The elite triggers are "slightly" better IMHO. If you like the black and can put an elite trigger in one and still be under the cost of the Elite K9, I'd do that as an option. If Kahr had offered the all black when I got my K9 I would have got one, instead I got the nickel which I have been very pleased with.
