Are the IDPA summer nationals still going on this weekend? Who will win each Division this year?
I am betting on Phil Strader for 1st place in SSP, Sevigny or Daniel Horner for ESP, Todd Jarret for CDP and, of course, Jerry in Revolver.
Your predictions? Reports?
Thanks.
Carlitos ,
The only name I found of those you predicted was Sevigney's.
IDPA has provisional results posted online ,Temp Results (http://idpa.com/matchresults/2005_nationals/Total.pdf)
Didn't see
Leatham
Burkett
Miculek
Jarrett
Horner
Strader
Are those guys there but just haven't shot yet??
Taran Butler is there and so is GT's Michael Brown.

I don't know about those guys, but a lot of my friends that are there are not listed yet.

My predictions:
Sevigny SSP
Taran Butler or Danny Horner in ESP
Langdon CDP
Looks like Taran is out of the running he's second after yesterday's shooter have finished.
The IDPA web site has shooters by division and class, but only first names are given. Some of the big shooter may be guessed at by their lower IDPA number and sub category. Is Todd Jarrett shooting CDP??
There is no Robert listed in CDP master, but there is one in ESP with a low number in ESP that is Master and "Industy". Is Rob Leatham shooting ESP and if so, is he using an XD?
Wish there was more info coming back from this match.

Talked with Robbie at length today, he is shooting ESP with an XD. Right now we are neck and neck with only .5sec difference between us and we have shot the same stages. Right now it looks like ESP is a very tight race with Horner in the mix.
Didn't see Phil, is he here?
Looks like Taran got DQ'd?
Burkett is not shooting the match this year.
re: to DQ or not? - looks like Butler's scores have been removed altogether from the reults page! WTF is going on over there?
We will soon learn the full story as the participants return online with their match reports.

Thanks for the updates guys. Phil could not make it this year; look out for him at the Winter Nationals and again this time next year.
Matt- GREAT shooting! Look forward to the final results & hopefully full TV coverage sometime later this fall.
I shot this weekend, but didn't fare too well. I ended up 21 of 29 in SSP/SS. It was a tough division with a lot of very good shooters. I found that National level shooting is a lot different than state level. Man, they call everything and many people had multiple PE's, mostly for cover. But all in all it was a great experience.
SSP - D. SEVIGNY 184.61
ESP - D. HORNER 188.97
CDP - E. LANGDON 202.34
ESR - J. MICULEK 220.94
SSR - C. NICHOLS 265.71

Well I called Daniel Horner for ESP & Jerry for SSR (that last one was a no-brainer) and everyone knew Dave would come out at or near the top. Congrats to Ernie Langdon - could not have been won by a nicer guy! (obviously faster than the competition too). ANd congrats to c. NICHOLS.
Thanks for the update.
PS - everyone survive that heat OK? Sounds like an added challenge.

Actually Curt didn't win SSR, Jerry Biggs did. Jerry was an Expert shooter, and he and Curt rode over from Oklahoma together, and they knew one or the other would win it. Jerry was squadded with me and shot a fantastic match. He and Curt were close, so Curt must have shot really well also. Both guys are great and gave each other a real good race.
This was my first attempt at ESP, and I was shocked to find out after the first day that I was in the hunt for the win. I had an amazing first day, and only had 2 oopsies on the last 2 stages I shot. After Rob was done we compared notes and we were .37 sec apart. We looked at the stages Daniel had shot, did some comparisons and realized he may be about 1 sec ahead. Hard to make a comparison using interims, but that's all we had to go off of. Day 2 Rob shot really clean, and I didn't and fell back in the pack a bit. Oh well, I still had a great match.
The biggest shocker to me was hearing about this super smooth shooter from up North named Bob Vogal. Bob shot a 190 and we figured we would pass him, but it didn't happen. Bob is a USPSA Limited GM, and this was his first IDPA Nationals. He shot slow and accurate and almost took the ESP win. Finally met him at the match and got to hang out with him. He's another great competitor and a great guy.
So is Daniel and his dad, Andy. We talked quite a bit at the match and at the banquet, along with Bob, and had a real good time with him.
Probably the most fun I've had at IDPA Nats, and it was the best match CASA has put on.
Congratz to all the winners!

So, what happened to Taran?
MLM
First of all, Matt congrats on your placement, you shot a heck of a game.
Glenn: you finished about where I did last year, don't sweat it. This year I shot 10th in SSP/EX. Maybe next year I'll be 10th in SSP/MA? (I'm definitely not going to beat Sevigny, at least not in a match. Maybe if I sneak up on him with a stick!)
I too wonder what happened to Taran Butler's score? He was posted as of Friday, and I saw him on Thursday at the range.
Rumor has it Sevigny was having an "off" day, thus only beating people by a few seconds and not 10-20. Go figure.
Danny Horner took ESP last year as well, that kid rocks the house. (Really nice guy too, plus he and his father put on a great match at Norfolk, the VA Regional Indoors.)
I was hoping to rock a little harder, I thought I had a 250-260 in me, but the hits weren't coming fast enough, and there was a miss, a hit on a non-threat, and a procedural in my score as well. (10+ seconds down the tubes for stupidity.) Throw in a handful of -3s on targets and I got what I got. Back to the lab again, and I'll hopefully do better next year!

Looks like he had an off stage for the standards at least. His 7.51 1pt down "true" El Prez time is the best time I recall from any nationals it's been run.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. So then Leatham was 3rd place ESP shooting an XD? And the first and second place finishers were shooting STI/SVI guns?

Mark Yeah, well even if he's having an off day, you can't discount him. I think he missed at least one head shot on the standards. Heck, he and Julie Goloski finished within .1s of each other on the standards, and usually he's VERY ahead of her. (Not that she is a bad shooter, obviously.)

Yes Rob shot an XD Tactical 9mm in ESP. Daniel was shooting an STI, Bob Vogel was shooting an STI in .40, his Limited gun. I think Scott Warren shot a single stack 9mm, but I might be wrong. I had the oddball of the group, a CZ 75 single action in 9mm.

Way to go Bob V.
What is the deal with Taran? Seems like he is a marked man. (Didn't he catch some grief last year too?)

FWIW, I don't think he was having an off day as much as he was being a bit more relaxed.

Well I was close!
Thanks Jay. Overall, I feel pretty good about how I did. It certainly was a higher level that state matches. I learned quite a bit and look forward to next year.

Thanks for pitching in & providing all the reports guys!
While there is a seperate section of GlockTalk for GSSF, the next largest two sports for handguns (and particularly for Glocks) are IDPA and USPSA (IPSC).
THe really big sporting events for these sports are the IDPA Nationals (winter & summer) and the USPSA Nationals (as well as the IPSC World Shoot every 3 years). These internet forums are the best way to track the progress of all the shooters & get real-world reports from folks who are actually there or those who know people on the ground.
While I enjoy the cable TV coverage that will appear this fall, the reports are always several months out of date. Call me impatient, but I cannot wait that long to hear all the details about the "Superbowl of Shooting" (nationals and World shoot).
Thanks again & hopefully I can be the one on the ground shooting next year (and posting everyone's progress).

There should be a good amount of media on this match. S&W recorded it for their S&W TV show (unfortunately on sattelite and not cable) and IDPA is working on its own DVD if I heard right.

Ted Ted: special thanks to you, really enjoyed the stage you ran. Thanks for SOing, that is DEFINITELY a rough job.
Congratulations to my local homeboys Curt Nichols,Jerry Biggs.
My homie Eric Fuson (ESP MA), 7th place, (11th over all) is also a monster shooter and I can guarantee he will break the top five next year.
