The first gun I ever bought was a NIB COLT OFFICER'S ACP in 93' SN: SF#####E and I just assumed all these years that the finish was nickel b/c it was so bright. However, all I see for sale these days are bright stainless ones on GB/Gunsamerica and they look close enough to mine that it has me wondering. I also looked in the colt manual that came with the gun and it does not mention nickel being on option on an officers acp. Can anyone help me by looking at the SN or guide me in the right direction besides having to pay colt to tell me? Thanks.

You can just call Colt and ask. They don't charge for that information. What they charge for IIRC is a letter stating the gun's stats. I did this for a Colt Custom Combat 10 (http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=109577) and had the answer given to me over the phone.

Cool Larry. Glad it worked out. ^c
anything 20 years old or less is certainly going to be SS.nickel has a deeper ,softer, richer look than SS.

And a gun that old of nickel would look mellow.
Sounds like a nice gun.
