View Full Version : My K40 has wood! cjblackmon 09-23-2005, 15:55 Just got them today from Kahr and threw em on. cjblackmon 09-23-2005, 15:56 One More... bulbboy 09-25-2005, 14:41 very nice - I was very happy that I got the wood grips for mine - next time I will go smooth instead of checkered but it still looks better that the black ones it came with. hkowboy 09-27-2005, 00:54 Whoa! That's probably the best lookin kahr I've ever seen. Good job on putting together something that not every one else has. cjblackmon 09-27-2005, 07:17 Thanks bulboy and hkowboy. I guess I'm a little to proud of it since I've posted a few pics of it with and with without the wood grips, I'm sure people are tired of hearing about it by now. I just think it's cool that I ran accross one. bulbboy 09-27-2005, 08:29 We all get giddy when we get new guns - thats the fun part! Most of our friends and relatives don't get it so its fun to share it with people who are the same way (hence Glocktalk) Keep posting the pictures!! That truly is a beautiful gun! josp 10-01-2005, 17:37 Nice. Did you get the blued frame plated? Of the stainless slide darkened? I have a blued K9 needing some attention. cjblackmon 10-01-2005, 18:31 Originally posted by josp Nice. Did you get the blued frame plated? Of the stainless slide darkened? I have a blued K9 needing some attention. Actually it was a part of Wilson Customs package. It is a Polymer coating. If it is something you need coating wise, Wilson's and Robar are excellent companies that can do it for you. josp 10-01-2005, 21:49 OK....which is the plating, or is both plated different colors? cjblackmon 10-01-2005, 22:02 Originally posted by josp OK....which is the plating, or is both plated different colors? If you're referring to my K40, the frame is stainless and the slide is Poly coated. If you're asking whick=h one of the two companies above do plating, or coloring, I think they both can do it. josp 10-02-2005, 20:39 Thanks:) jumbiejim 10-02-2005, 23:37 Sweet!!! I've been thinking about wood for my K40, too. What made you decide on the smooth instead of the checkered. Were you able to fondle both to make the choice?;f ;f ;f Jim bulbboy 10-03-2005, 07:23 [QUOTE]Originally posted by jumbiejim Sweet!!! I've been thinking about wood for my K40, too. It just looks awesome! I used to have a Kimber Heritage which was a beautiful gun and it had rosewood grips and checkering. I love the checkered look, but after shooting it a few times the checkering was coming off. It was driving me nuts!! So I thought I'd get smooth and see how I like them. I wish I had more of a darker wood like a rosewood or cherrywood color to them though. I think your redish grips look really nice. bulbboy 10-03-2005, 09:13 I have some nice smooth wood grips on my Browning BDA .380 - so I went with the checkered for the Kahr. You are right some of the checkering has come off and it scratches easier! Still looks nice - I think I just prefer the smooth ones! I saw some other grip places that gave more options - I might get some new ones - hard to justify spending the money though! I bought some ebony ones from eagle grips for my walther - we'll see how those turn out. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any more guns for a long time - but now I am spending just as much $$ on holsters and grips, etc!! Never ends! cjblackmon 10-03-2005, 09:16 If by chance you see another company offering wood grips for the Kahrs let me know. I'd love some rosewoods! bulbboy 10-03-2005, 09:50 I just looked at the ones I had bookmarked - they were all for Walthers - thought I saw some for the Kahr - but no luck so far - I'll keep looking GirlWithGlock 10-03-2005, 20:23 You sucked me in with the title. ;f bulbboy 10-03-2005, 20:35 I love women with a sense of humor!! How's your ankle rig? GirlWithGlock 10-03-2005, 21:12 ;) Lovin' the ankle rig!! Had to take it off before I went into the bank and to the school today. ;) bulbboy 10-03-2005, 21:16 Have you had one before the Alessi? I have a Galco and love it - but I hear that the Alessi is the King! How is all day comfort? does it velcro? give me info!! cjblackmon 10-03-2005, 21:33 Originally posted by GirlWithGlock You sucked me in with the title. ;f I had to get your attention somehow. Oh and if you rub the grips they turn into a rifle stock. GirlWithGlock, why did you say that you had to take your Alessi Ankle Rig off before you went to the bank? School I understand. How is all day comfort? does it velcro? give me info!! All day comfort? I forget I have it on when it comes to comfort. This is my first ankle holster so no, I didn't have one before the Alessi. It does velcro; I'll take a few more pictures for you to see how it works. :) GirlWithGlock 10-03-2005, 22:19 Originally posted by cjblackmon I had to get your attention somehow. School I understand. Well, the school you have to take it off, obviously. (I assume every state has the school law?) And the bank, well I was questioning myself about whether or not it was okay to wear it into the bank and I didn't want to take the chance of being wrong. I'm still new to all this. ;) cjblackmon 10-04-2005, 07:46 Originally posted by GirlWithGlock Well, the school you have to take it off, obviously. (I assume every state has the school law?) I'm still new to all this. ;) [/B] When I got my CWP I found this book in the gunstore "Florida Firearms Law, Use, & Ownership". It was written by defense attorney down in Orlando. It has everything you ever needed to know about Owning a gun, Concealing a gun, the Laws, Examples of cases he's actually defended, and it's explained all in laymans terms. It was a great book. I read it in a day, and it takes me a few weeks to finish a book (I read a little at a time). I couldn't put it down. See if they have a similar book for your state. They should. It'll make things a lot clearer for you in what you can and can't do. Just trying to help. bulbboy 10-04-2005, 08:23 Bank - ok School - bad GirlWithGlock 10-04-2005, 15:48 Thanks for the recommendation, cj!! :) I'll have to see if I can find a book like that for Minnesota. As far as I was told, it's only school grounds and places like court houses that you can't carry. Someone said that you can't carry in churches in Michigan...is that true??? goblue 10-04-2005, 16:05 Banks are OK here. Schools and Federal buildings are out. Here is a similar book for MN http://ellegon.com/aacfi/intro.pdf I have not read it. Laws are pretty straight forward here so probably is not needed. Of course, you know better than to take advice from me. cjblackmon 10-04-2005, 17:15 Originally posted by GirlWithGlock Thanks for the recommendation, cj!! :) I'll have to see if I can find a book like that for Minnesota. Aww, You gave me a pet name... ;3 Here in Florida and a lot of these should apply nationwide. Places that you can't carry: Schools, Colleges, Professional Sports Events (NFL, NHL, etc.), Airports (it used to be, that you could carry into an airport as long as you stayed out of the "sanitized area" ie where the passengers board the plane, but from what I'm told now, Homeland Security has requested no firearms in an airport facility), Police Stations, Courthouses, Post Offices, Place of nuissance (Illegal Gambling, Prosititution and Crack houses), Bars or facilities that serve alcohol (no if you go into a restaraunt that seves alcohol you can dine with your gun but not hang out in the "Bar" part of the facility. There may be a few others that I missed that I'm sure someone will correct me on. As far as churches are involved in Michigan, I have no clue. I don't know the reasoning behind it but it might be true. Every state has their own quirks. We just had a bill pass on 10/1/2005 that states that we no longer have to use the retreat rule when being engaged by someone (I know this sentence is going to have a lot of responses to this). I feel a lot of that is because of the vast majority of Senior Citizens that reside in Florida and are to old to retreat. The best thing you can do to make sure you're 100% in the right when comes to carrying, transporting, and at worst case...shooting someone in a self defense situation is get that book!!!! It wont bore you I promise, and you won't have to second guess what consequences you might face after you shoot someone!!!!! How's your new job?? cjblackmon 10-04-2005, 17:33 If you haven't seen this, check out the new sights I'm getting for my K40. They're pictured on Glock but available for the Kahrs as well. Zoom in on the image to see it's features. GirlWithGlock 10-05-2005, 21:39 "first in the hood".... ;i Very cool! The new job is going great! :) goblue...you know I can't help but like you even though you recommended that POS gun. ;) It all worked out in the end...after a few hundred headaches. ;i After all, you went way out of your way to help me out. :) vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
