View Full Version : Rugers past and present
Let's kick the club off with an inventory of Ruger firearms that we have or have owned over the years.
My first was in 1980 - Super Blackhawk .44 mag with the 10.5" barrel. What a beast that was. The trigger guard used to make my hands bleed. I traded it for something?
Next was a Mark I .22 pistol with a 5.5" bull barrel in about 1981. I had a Clark custom trigger installed and still own the little tack driver.
Then came my first Mini 14 Stainless pre-ban but I sold it before the ban for lack of money.
Then in 1999 I bought another Mini 14 Stainless and a bunch of pre-ban Ruger hicaps. I couldn't take the inaccuracy of it and sold it and the hicaps for almost enough to buy my Bushmaster.
Then I bought a P95DC and was amazed at how reliable the thing was so I bought another new one for a spare.
Then a stainless P97 that I gave to my son. I bought a blue one to replace it with.
Then a P93DAO and P89DAO. I liked the smooth feel - no safeties or decockers but couldn't handle the DAO. There is just no way to shoot one of those things one handed, so I sold them and bought a P89DC.
I just don't like the Manual Safty models as the safty flips up for off instead of down like my 1911 that I've had for 25 years.
The P95DC is my most trusted semi-auto having never failed to feed or extract no matter what kind of ammo, how bad I limpwrist it or how hot it gets.

My very first firearm was a 6 inch
blued security six bought for around
$250 brand new in 1987. Like a fool, sold
it and bought a GP 100 around 1989. Sold that one
too. My third ruger was a Mark II, 4 inch bull barrell.
Sold that one too. Next came my 6 inch New model
single six in stainless steel. Then came my 4 inch SS
Black Hawk (my favorite) but again like a complete
idiot, sold it around 1992 along with the single six. Now, I have a security six,
4 inch in stainless steel. This one will never leave me short
of complete poverty. I am starting to rebuild my Ruger
hand gun collection. I have a 50th Anniversary on layaway...it
will be in my hands by mid October and I have already arranged to
have it surgically attached to my shooting hand....So There!
Hey guys, the only handgun I own is a blue P94 in 9mm. I got it for $310 before shipping and FFL transfer (it was purchased on GunBroker).
I'm very pleased with it. It has been very reliable (no FTFs or FTEs so far) with all kinds of ammo:
Sellier and Bellot, Federal American Eagle, CCI Blazer Aluminum, Wolf, Winchester, etc.
It has a great feel, and I'm more accurate with it than I have been with any other handgun I've fired, with the exception of a Glock 19 (with which I was about as accurate).
Great gun, but I'll need something smaller for CCW.
I am also excited about the new forum. Thanks for getting it set up!

My first nib gun was a 4" stainless steel Security Six. I bought it in 1978. I'll never part with it. I've carried it on my hip while tending livestock and driving a tractor. I've carried it while hunting, fishing and 4 wheeling. It's been to Kentucky and Mississippi and back with me. Twice.
A friend was letting his FFL expire. I went by his house to see what he had in the way of ammo. Wasn't really looking for any more guns at that time. He shows me a 4" stainless steel GP100 he had taken in trade from another one of his friends. The gun only had 1 cylinder full fired through it. Nice gun but i didn't need another .357. Then he breaks out an SP101. It had also been taken in trade. It had never been fired. Another nice gun but i don't need another snubby. He was asking $300.00 each. But he knew the trap had been set "I'll let you have them both for $500.00".
Last year i was at a gun show and ran across a 4" blued Security Six. He was asking $200.00 and i offered him $150.00 and he accepted. It's a 150 prefix gun and i was having a hard time finding grips for it. No problem. I just modified the grip frame to accept later model grips.
Now if i could just find a stainless steel Speed Six .357 i'ld be one happy camper.

The only ruger that I have is a P89DC I bought a couple weeks ago for my 21st BD, but my dad has about 12 ruger revolvers so I have been around them along time. RUGER!

My first Ruger was a blued Mini-14 4 years ago that I bought. I had to sell it due to money issues.
I just picked up my 181 series Ruger GB from my FFL yesterday and I can't wait to shoot it! I don't care if it turns out to be inaccurate, as long as it can hit minute-of-man at 100 yards. ;f
I started with a KP89DC. Then got a P95, then a P97. Decided I didn't need that many Rugers (yes, I know it was a mistake), so I sold the KP89. Now, I'm real close to either buying another 89, or else picking up a 93 or 94 while CDNN has them cheap. But please...don't tell my wife!

My first semi-auto pistol was a P89DC. It was one of the very first off the line. I still have it and have probably put 5000+ rounds through it without ever having a fail to fire, feed, or eject. It is more accurate than I am. And though I own Glocks, Beretta's and other fine weapons, I would trust my P89 with my life any time. I have four other Rugers.I would never sell them unless I had absolutely no choice. Great weapons at a great value.

I currently only have a few Rugers, but have owned many over the years. All were excellent guns, the accuracy of the Mini-14 withstanding.

My current Ruger is a Mini-30. I noticed some talk here concerning the Mini-14's accuracy and was wondering if poor accuracy is inherent with the mini-30 as well.
Now wait a minute Cue-Ball, that second pic looks just my like my custom Ruger/Kel-Tec hybrid.

My first was a Blackhawk, .357mag. To make a long sordid tale short, I had to leave it with my EX in the divorce settlement!!! :(
What happened was I had two Rugers. The above mentioned Blackhawk and a pre-1973 three screw Single-Six in .22mag. I chose the Single -Six. Arizona is a 50-50 state, so I could not grab both!!!
I do miss that gun!!!
As soon as I was free of the (insert term for female dog here), I bought a P95, P89, P97, MK-II, and two 22/45s!!! Not all at once, of course. ;)

First was a 44Mag Super blackhawk stainless with 10/5" barrel, traded that for a P85 9mm and cash.
Later, my Dad gives me a blued one in .357. Still have that.
Sold off P85, then bought P89DC stainless. Still have that one, love it.
10/22's? Well, let's say they are a habit of mine. I can't seem to go very long between purchases there. Current count: 5 or so... Have to check. Probably enough parts around to make a few more.
Also have a MKII that has a lot of work done to it.
Currently searching for a 10/22 Magnum as I haunt the used rimfire sections of the local shops.
1976 Single Six 22LR/22 Mag ("200th Year of American Freedom" rollmark)

My dad gave me a Mark II for my 16th birthday.
Got an SP101 when I got my CCW at 21.
Bought a single six and sold it a few years later. Heavy gun for a 22. Could not get it to shoot well.
Bought a M77 all-weather in 30-06. Great shooter.
My best man gave me a 44 Redhawk for my wedding. Shot a deer with it later that year.
Bought a 10/22 second hand. Should have gotten one a long time ago.
Bought another Mark II last year.
I probably forgot something.
My first handgun was a P91DAO in 40 cal. I have heard people complain about a guns trigger reach. In particular a DA revolvers trigger. But after learning how to shoot a handgun by always firing DAO on a KP91 I think a GP100's trigger is just fine.
have also owned/own
p91
p95's
p89's
p90
sp101's
gp100's
mini 14
Mark II
