View Full Version : IDPA Legal Trigger Mod
I would like to swap the stock grooved trigger of my G19 with the smooth trigger assembly from a G17/22/31. No other mods have been made to this gun. My questions:
1) Is this legal?
2) In what division will the gun end up in? SSP? ESP?
I sent an email to IDPA HQ, but that was maybe a week before the Nationals. That was probably not the correct time to do this as I haven't received a reply yet.
Any ideas?

Swapping triggerbars is legal for all IDPA classes.

hmm. i think you can. heck, you can put an aftermarket barrel in!! enhance trigger pull internally. honestly i dont think this would get contended at a national match....
I guess my real concern is that this simple mod would violate the "no visible external modifications" clause for SSP. This clause doesn't exist for ESP so I suspect doing so would at least be allowed in ESP. I believe that Beretta shooters had/have a similar problem with the LTT Speedbump triggers.

1. YES
2. SSP , unless you have made mod's to the pistol to place it in ESP
add a steel GR
add a magwell
dremel or re-shape any part of the frame , including the trigger guard.
any combination of the above.
Externally visible modifications other than grips or sights
would look something like this - it ain't purdy , but it sure feels good in hand.

Mark,
The 4/2005 IDPA rules state that for the SSP Division Guide Rods cannot be made from a different material from the factory part it replaces.
If memory serves me correctly the original Glock factory guide rods were made from steel. So it could be argued that a steel guide rod could still be used in the SSP Division with any full size or compact Glock for that matter.
'Externally visible' technically yes (someone has to actually look that close). At the local level it doesn't matter. At the State and regionals, it takes too much time to do equipment inspections (however we were subjected to full on gun inspection, box check and concealment check at a Arizona state one time). Spotting a smooth versus grooved trigger for a particular Glock model would be tricky. I suspect HQ will answer with 'Since it's a factory part, ie, offered as an option, like the large frame extended mag release, it's ok'
I just smooth the grooved trigger face with Scothbrite anyway...

ryucasta ,
I can see that as a valid argument for 1st gen glocks but not for later versions..

That arguement assumes that IDAPHQ will use logic and common sense.
