Don't want to ask anything illegal so if this is let me know.

1) Can you buy a Legal sear to drop in an AK or AR and will this work reliably?

2) If so are there any available?

3) Where do you look for them?

Reason I'm asking was another thread (either here or AR15) that talked about if govt confiscates weapons you could take the registered sear or other FA parts, keep them, and turn over the weapon as a SA and hide/keep your FA parts.

Just interested, Thanks, FH

1) Yes.

2) Yes.

3) Class III dealers, subguns.com, sturmgewehr.com, and the best place in the next 2 weeks - Knob Creek (www.machinegunshoot.com).

Yes legal sears are available for AR15s, if LE/Govment is taking away your semi auto host guns, that are not even registered with them, and they have no way of even knowing if you have these semi auto firearms, then they would have already taken away the sear which is registered with the government and you gave your fingerprints and did a FBI background check to purchase.

I really can't follow your line of thinking.

This stemmed off another thread about NOLA and the fact that people were not allowed to carry firearms with them when they evacuated. Police were reportedly confiscating weapons.

Wish I had URL of that thread, I believe it was in GNG.

Local police, in that situation, I don't think would take the time to look up who has NFA items so you could stash/carry with you the sear and let them confiscate SA and you wouldn't lose major $$$.

I thought it beared looking into. I'm not into FA yet but the few time I have borrowed FA weapons I loved it! Very expensive hobby/investment (last part for wife!) Just feeding these critters is expensive. Heck, I'll fire 200-500 rounds in one range session w/SA...imagine the $$$ going downrange with just one FA!

I want to get an AR-15 anyway and the fact that I could get a drop in FA conversion is very appealing.

Probably go w/Mac-11 as a starter but will get a 15 soon and start tricking it out, then next year start fiddling with the sear.

Thanks for the input.

I started that thread either on Uzitalk or here on GT. It was based on the theory RDIAS type guns are easier to hide, since you only need to hide the sear itself.

Point was with a sear yuo can easily hide it, they take your $700 Bushmaster - big deal. Drive Shreveport and buy another. They take your $14000 Colt M16, it is gone forever.

The thread was deleted since the Keyboard Commandos turned the thread into a cop-killing bash - cold dead hands etc.

Yeah, I could see it going that way.

Seemed like a worthy idea though...kind of like having several barrels for my G23,27 &35. Each can fire .40, 9mm or 357.

Same could be said of a AR-15 w/seperate sear. You could fire SA when you want or FA when you want.

Nice idea I thought...not really worried about the pry-bar at this time!

Thanks for the clarification on the post - I was hunting for it and could not find it.
