View Full Version : Anyone have trouble inserting a full mag in a G30?
I have noticed that when I am loading my G30, it is really difficult to insert the magazine after I have chambered a round and topped off the mag. It will load just fine with 9 in the mag but it is a real b*tch when full. I don't have any trouble getting the 10th round in the mag, just inserting it into the gun.

I have experienced the same thing with my G30 and even more so with the G29 I had. The magazine spring is compressed about as far as it wants to go and you have to give it a little extra help to get the magazine to lock into place. I don't think it is a problem, just what you have to deal with when you shove 10 rounds of .45 in such a small package.
SG.
yes the full 10rnd mag is hard to rack the slide when inserted with slide in closed position.
That is precisely the reason why I load my spare mags with only 9 rounds; it can become very difficult to rack a closed slide on a full mag. I think that's a G30 quirk we all have to live with.

Don't be shy. Just give it a good slap on the butt and it'll lock right in place. I been doing that for 5+ years with my G30 and never had a problem.

Exactly what I was going to type. Thousands of rounds cycled thru my G30 mags and gun. It won't take 10 rounders, and I'm not going to risk it.
Shot placement....not lots of rounds!;f
Update
I have been breaking in the springs on two of my mags for a couple days. I loaded them up with 9 rounds overnight and then reduced them to 7 in the morning and left them like that all day. Today I loaded one with 10 rounds and it seemed a little easier to seat. I removed a couple rounds and left them on my desk. I think this approach seems to be helping. My spare carry mag has 9 rounds currently but hopefully I will be able to switch it out with one that is broken in soon.

When I say really difficult, I mean next to impossible. Yours must not be as bad as mine.

Are those Glock factory springs in the mag? Did you buy this new or "pre-owned"? Does this occur with all mags or just one?
Hi,
G30 10 round mags are just a little too short for 10 rounds. If you get 10 rounds in them, then there is no extra room for the rounds to drop down slightly when the slide is pulled back. Many people post that it will work eventually, but they are probably mashing their follower against the bottom of the magazine until it wears enough to allow it to happen. Glock designed them a little too short. My advice is go with 9 rounds.
Thanks,
Aaron
I shaved a little off the bottom of the follower. Its bearable now... before it was tight enough that it jammed with 10 in the mag.
Are the 9 round ones as bad? I was going to get one or two of those for when I can actually carry it.
