View Full Version : Ruger P95
Well- I just picked up a brand-spankin’ new Ruger P95 (decocker) last night. I couldn’t be happier. This thing fits my hand like it was designed for me. I got the guy to come down from $380 to $340. To close the deal, the guy sold me 1,000 rounds of WWB for $5 a box that he normally sells for $8.99 a box.
I had been saving up for a G19, but although I like the way they shoot, the 19 has never felt quite right in my hand. The angle of the grip always seems too severe. I’ve never shot the 95, but it just felt like it belonged in my hand. Also, the best price I could find around here on a Glock 19 is $489 (not negotiable). That’s a $150 difference!
I’m going to take it out first thing Saturday morning.

The P95 was my second Ruger autoloader. The first was the P512. Anyway, I have had it since '97 or'98, I can't remember when I got it exactly!! I still have it. It's a great pistol.
My blue P95DC is as reliable as a 16 shot revolver. I love .357mags but for lack of capacity the P95 is my main housegun.

You made a good choice. I bought one of the new KP95PR's, wife took it for her car gun, had to order another, 500 rounds throuh it and no problems. Pop
What a great day! I spent most of the morning at the range with my new P95. I already love this gun. I just made plans with the guys to go out shooting again tomorrow.
Sent 200 rounds of WWB down range- perfect! Just like I thought, this gun was built for my hand. I've attached a shot from right before I went out. Does anybody else have any P95 pics to share?

Nice gun. Congrats.
Shot a p89 back in 96 when I first got my CCW. The instructor let me use his gun because my G17 (that I had at the time)was a jammamatic
Nice gun.
Avail, you have one of the new models with the stipled grip and tac rail. I need one of those to hang my M3 light on. My trusty piece is the older type.

Great picture donspag- it's interesting to view the earlier and later models side-by-side. Nice looking piece.
I love the way this gun fit my hand. As you mentioned, it has a really nice stipled grip. It stays put, but doesn't fell sharp at all.
In total, I shot 500 rounds of WWB over the last two days and another 50 rounds of Golden Saber (124 grain). Thus far, everything had feed well. I'm going to try a few other brands of ammo next weekend and see what happens.

Avail, good to see that the new models haven't given up reliability.
Now you need a tac light to hang on that rail for night time.

Enjoy your new Ruger! Mine is several years old, just as solid as a train. I put a Hogue Handall on it for better grip, but took it off because it's too thick. The other evening I put skateboard tape on the front & back. Looks great (black & sparkly), will post a pic when I can, can't wait to see how it handles...

Sounds interesting- it would be great to see a pic. Have you had a chance to handle the newer model?

That is slick! I think a Ruger semi is on my list next, probably that model  Glad Ruger is keeping the lock off the classics...

My P95DC is reliable and accurate. A very underrated gun imo. I like my G34 a little better, but it cost a lot more too. I would not hesitate to recommend a Ruger to anyone.

On a whim I bought a P95DC and I am very impressed....horribly accurate.....almost as much as my Glock 35
Have a new P95 also, very pleased with it. The hammer is clumsy if you want your first shot single action so I'm practising double action first shots. That gives me an excuse for more range times. I'm glad I'm the only one who had anything critical to say.
Does Ruger still make 15 rd. mags for P85's? I only saw 10rd. on their site, unless I missed something.

I'm not throwing off on the old P95's,but the new ones look alot better.
Here's some pics of my P95 with a little skateboard tape on the front & back. Very secure grip!

Nice pix.
I like the grip tape over a houge handall as well. Not as much bulk. Plus I just like how it feels....very secure grip.
I put a strip under the trigger guard as well. But, many have told me they do not like the grip tape under there. Just personal preference.
Ruger KP95 imo is the best handgun on the market for the money.

quote: " had been saving up for a G19, but although I like the way they shoot, the 19 has never felt quite right in my hand."
Had the exact same experience. When I was doing my 'research' before buying my first semi-auto, I had narrowed my choices down between the Glock & the P-95.
After discovering the Ruger's ergomomic-superiority to the Glock, my decision was sinched when I realized the price difference.
As someone said, above, the P-95 (as well as a lot of other Rugers) is a seriously underrated pistol. Just as reliable and accurate as any Glock I've ever shot (shot a few in my time).
Btw, I respect the P-95 enough so that I sent a letter to Sturm, Ruger requesting a .40S&W version (when it came time for me to retire my 9mm & 'step up' in caliber) I would have waited to buy one. However, I was disappointed when they sent a letter back saying they had no plans to 'do so at this time'... Hope they change their minds.
I do not see Ruger making any thing but the P94 in 40S&W. I think they see the round hard on the weapon. Pops

If that's the case, pops, then Ruger will continue to see the "dollar" hard on them.
I bought a .40 Kahr Covert instead, when I would'v plunked my cash down for a P-95 in .40.
Not wise business planning for Ruger, in my book.
Surely, if Kahr can develop a .40 Polymer handgun, Ruger can too...

The P95 (with a little skateboard tape) is the Browning Hi-Power of the 21st century. (IMHO);)
I've had a P95DC (Decocker model) for 10 years now. Got it when it first came out.
I've probably shot at least 10,000 rounds through it of EVERY type known to man and had 1 malfunction... An old blazer case didn't fully eject. A quick pull of the slide and it was good to go again.
You picked a great gun for top notch, rugged reliability. My glock 19 has been great but has had twice as many failures as the Ruger :)

I bought a KP95DC several years ago- 4,500 rounds fired without a jam. I like the Hogue Handall, but I see where it might make the grip too large for some people. After the expiration of the Federal AWB last year, I bought 2 Ruger 15 round factory demo mags and 2 17 round nickel-plated Mec-Gar mags. All function fine. I have a FIST #9 Kydex OWB holster so the pistol conceals pretty well. The P95 is a great value- best 9mm for the money and it compares very favorably with more expensive handguns. :) ^c

I got mine in late September....life kept me too busy to try it until last week. I put 150 rounds through it and it felt GREAT. I hadn't shot in years and felt the P95 was extremely comfortable for my hands. It was as accurate as I would expect with how long it's been :)

;z That cracked me up! Twice as many failures- cute. ;)
By the way, does anybody else have any good pictures of their p95? I'll try and get some action shots this weekend if I can.

Avail,
Glad to hear you like your P95. I had one but sold it for a smaller carry gun. I loved it - very accurate and super reliable. It was the most accurate rapid fire pistol I've ever shot - very easy to get get back on target. I also loved the "mini bank vault" look of the barrel - man that thing has to be strong! :) No doubt the best bang for the buck in the 9mm world.
