Does anyone here have a CZ-52 pistol? If you do, do you like it? How accuate & reliable is it? Is it true about what I hear about the muzzel blast being a beast for the people standing next to you(I hope it is true) Is that 7.62X25mm Tokerov round a good round?

You know not to dry fire the CZ-52 if you get one right?

Yes I know about that, but thanx for telling me. I try not to dry fire any of my or my fathers guns.

I think I'm the only person that has got a bad 52. Mine will not feed at all. Probably just need to buff up the feed ramp and it will be fine. To many other guns to mess with right now;f . And yes I did break it completely down and clean it thoroughly before I shot it.

I had my first major problem in 1200 rounds..

Just installed a Wolff 18.5# spring, and it functioned 100% with the S&B 7.62x25. However, 2nd round of Romanian Surplus got stuck in the chamber(unfired round), this happened twice. Both times I used a hammer and a block of wood to get it out. I then went to the stock spring, and it shot fine...

The fact that it survived my beating on it just fine, and is still able to hold sub 1" group at 10 yards off hand says something.

Untill this incident, I have had ZERO issues with mine, shooting: Yugo Surplus, Romanian Surplus, and S&B.

What everyone else said.

IMO it has the blast and report of a .357mag. Definately kicks like one. It is a very fun gun, especially for the money. It's too bad no one makes modern loadings for 7.62x25 (decent JHPs and such). I think it would be a pretty good woods gun. I mean 1600+ fps out of a handgun (even if it is only 90gr.) is pretty sweet. It should have pretty good sectional density.

Forgot to add: The accuracy is what got my attention the first time I shot it, even more so than the loud bang. It simply put holes where I wanted them to go. The trigger needs to be rounded off a bit as it has an edge to it on the sides, but I was very pleased with my purchase.

Check out www.reedsammo.com I bought some XTP hollowpoints for my CZ52 - they seem very consistent, and have noticeably more "umph" than S&B.

What's the overall QUALITY of the CZ-52's? If a Sig could be considered, say, a "10", where would a CZ-52 fall? A "6" or "7"?

I have a C & R license that's now a year and a half old, and I've not used it yet. I've seen the CZ-52's for sale on AIM Surplus' site for very reasonalble prices, but the gun always looked a little big & clumsy to me. The above discussion of the 7.62 x 25 round though, has me interested. As I said, my concern would be with the fit, finish, & general quality of the gun. I've never handled one of these before.

They have their quirks, but it's reliable and surprizingly accurate singe-stack 9mm for $100. I keep one in the car.

CZ-52's are 7.62 x25 Tok (.30cal) not 9mm.

There were some re-chambered for 9mm, as well as there are 9mm conversion barrels..

I'd give it an overal 7 out of 10 as a pistol. Mines been reliable, it's very accurate, and seems to be durable. The slide stop does not engage the follower on any of my mags, but I'll be getting another one soon I hope. That, and I believe the slide stop/saftey spring is a bad design, as it easily dislodges itself when a mag is not inserted.

Very accurate, and reliable. I happen to have an officer issue (two swords stamped on the side) and its pretty accurate. It rapid fires cheap china ammo, surplus great, and has never mis-fed. It's very good but bulkey.

A 9mm on steroids.

Crossed swords means it's a military pistol.. and just about all of them have it.

I've only seen 4 others with the swords on them. My neighbor who I bought this from had another cz just like tihs one, only difference was the serial #'s were 1 off from eachother in sequence. I saw 2 others @ a gunshow with them.

I just bought 2 from SOG. One was a '53, the other a '54. Both had the "Z" stamp indicating the decocker retrofit (though, we all know not to trust the decocker on these...right ;c), nice grey parkarizing, and crossed sword stamps just before the date stamp. All the crossed sword stamp means is that it was accepted after proof testing by the military (Chech Army). I'm guessing that perhaps some refurbs some have been seeing have had this scrubbed? For those who have NO crossed swords, are your pistols blued? I would assume that they are. Here is some websites with info on more than just the markings:

http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Gorge/4653/faqcz52.htm
http://www.courter.org/guns/handguns/cz-52.html
http://www.100megspop3.com/oldvalkyry/czinfo.html
http://makarov.com/cz52/
and let us not forget: http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=424321 ;)

Interestingly, in the 3rd link above, it says this:

In 1952 they had suceeded in theyre cause gaining the acceptance and then put at least 200,000 pistols in the militarys hands.exact number is unknown but some models that bear no army marks and are blued have been issued to the police units though which tells me that theyre were more made on top of the army contracts.

I would imagine that any CZ-52 that didn't have a crossed sword stamp, and not a "rid" code after the serial number, but still a legible original serial number might be a police gun. That would be an interesting find. All mine have the full military markings.

more good scoop:

The US market was quickly glutted with these pistols, and it became near impossible for the importers to sell them to distributors. In an attempt to solve this problem the importers (mostly Century Arms International) contracted to have those pistols with the least original finish refinished. Two different finishes were used; black parkerizing and bluing. Those pistol that were blued were usually excessively buffed, resulting the removal or near removal of the original markings.

Mystery solved?

BTW, does anyone here (esp. Jonathan) know what a "JM" stamp before the serial number indicates (if anything)? It doesn't seem to be part of the number itself as it is offset in front as far as the "rid" is behind the number. Perhaps it's just a serial number prefex...thoughts? Maybe I overlooked the reference for it somehow.

jack19512
10-10-2005, 06:29
The two CZ-52's that I have are the original grey finish and the black parkerizing. It was my understanding that these are the only two finishes that the CZ-52's came in. I was not aware of any with the bluing finish. But, like I said neither of mine has the crossed swords.

Rigormootis
10-10-2005, 07:33
Interesting! Do yours have anything in front of the date code (right/starboard front side of the receiver)? The swords on mine appear here, like:

"X 53"

jack19512
10-10-2005, 14:27
The grey one has X54 marked on it and that is all. The black one has the following markings from left to right, VOP 91 and X54.

Rigormootis
10-10-2005, 16:51
Take a close look to see if the "X" on yours is actually a pair of crossed swords. That's where they are supposed to be.

Mighty HD
10-10-2005, 17:36
Right side: Crossed swords and then the number 54 to the right of it. To the left it says St. Alv Vt.

Left side: has the serial # and then "rid" about 4 spaces to the right.

The grips are dark brown, gun finish is a worn out looking grey color

jack19512

Yes, you guys are right. After holding the pistol under a good light and using my best reading glasses it is crossed swords and not an X. I always thought that was an X. I learned something today. Thanks :)

No problem, Sir.

jonathon
10-12-2005, 00:46
Not sure at all about the JM marking on yours ;P Though, that does not mean anything, as there are a few markings that have baffled me totally that seem out of place. My understanding of the Serial Numbers in general is they had no real order of doing it, no set standard really.

What's funny is, after you posted that I looked closely at mine and it had an "M" that did not appear to be part of the SN(though I thought it was when I first looked the gun over.. go figure). The stamp does NOT match the SN in depth and is definatly offset from it. Now I am curious. I wonder if perhaps this could have been does as another inspection mark.. or perhaps something they did at re-arsenal?
