I'm looking for an affordable, but good, spotting scope for the range. Which to buy? Straight, angled, Nikon, etc.?

I have been very happy with my Burris.
I am also looking for an inexpensive spotting scope. I borrowed a friends the other day to sight in a couple of dear rifles and I was VERY dissapointed. I even tried a scope from the range and it was worse than the one I borrowed.
The problem I had is that at 200 yd. I could not see the holes unless I sat there and studied the target for several minutes. Of course if the hole was in the black it was a little easier but still very hard to see.
Are the scopes I was using just crap or is this what I can expect looking at 200 yds.?

Try Yukon made in Mother Russia. What I have is 20X50X50. excellent glass for under $100.

I like the Leupold wind river, spotting scopes 15-45x 60mm straight variable, nice and clear runs around 245 give or take a dollar or two.
