Picked up an SKS 59/66 and a Russian M44.
I went to the gun show looking for an SKS (per everyone's suggestions on GT) and found one.
The Yugo SKS I found was "new" but the stock had nicks from storage. It could also use a major cleaning up. Tons of cosmoline everywhere. I missed the pretty one by two minutes. I may strip and refinish the wood..
The Russian M44 is overall in very good shape. Bore is very good. Bolt isn't sticky.
The M44 I found at the last second and I really like this rifle. I can't wait to shoot it. The simplicity is amazing, and it seems very sturdy.
Questions...
1. What's the best way to remove cosmoline from the wood stock?
I figured Brake Cleaner is okay for the metal once I strip it form the stock. Am I correct? And then a generous cleaning with CLP or Eezox.
Anything else I have to be careful of?
2. Ammo? What are the best deals for 7.62x54 non-corrosive in bulk? Vendors/links would be helpful.
