Just a fact check: are any agencies being issued 35s? If so, who?

I think that the lack of post answers your question.
Several police units have been issued 35s. Don't know the units, but Summit arms was offering some police trade in 35s recently.

Kentucky State Police switched from the G20 to the G35 a year ago.

Just for S&G I called Glock and talked to a really nice fellow who said that he can't look up specific models anymore due to the enormous volume of Glocks purchased by various agencies, etc. He could only say with any certainty that most of the 35s for issue are for various SWAT arsenals. Not that this is some big revelation, but I thought it might be of interest...
Makes sense. If you are going to carry in a thigh holster might as well get the longer barrel and sight radius.
It's just not that big, compares closely to a 5" 1911 in size. Easy to carry IWB if you like.

I had an older glock catalog that listed several agencies that had switched to the G35, its less common, but they are being used for standard patrol guys

You wouldn't happen to have any specifics would you? I'm kinda curious. I mean, as jungle said, they're not much bigger than the 1911, which has been a standard for so long.

I will dig the issue out and get back to you. My agency told me that i could use my G35, but they aren't buying any new guns right now and the standard issus is G22. The G35 is perfect in my opinion, it is the same size as a 1911, my other favorite gun. it is not oversize and is very easy to work with. hosters are available from many companies, especially safariland, they list several models for the G35, like the 6280 for the M3 light.
Escondido PD in Escondido, CA issues the G35 w/ M3 light and 6280 holster. You also have the choice of the G23 or Sig P226 (.40) w/ M3 light.

along with the already mentioned Kentucky SP, is the Kerville texas city police with 47 sworn, are issued G35's and there is also mention of the Helsinki PD using them, where ever in the helsinki that is.
a lot of agencies swat teams use either the G34 or G35, our tri-county swat team uses both. hope this helps.

There are two guys on my SWAT team that were issued the 35's (two different departments). The rest of their departments, I beleive use 22's. I am currently issued a 22 but may use my personal 35 for SWAT.

Similiar story here, we're issued G22/23s, but G35s are authorized.
I remember when the G24 first came out, there was talk of using them for "tactical" stuff. But I've never seen any duty holsters for it, and the G35 has taken that role since then........
For what it's worth, it took a month or two for Safariland to deliver a 070 holster for my G35.
;c
Not really "issued", but 2 folks on our team are using G35's and I carry my G24. Everyone else has those stubby sight-radius-challenged G22's and G23's. Sad, really. ;f

Not issued, but I carry the G34 in a safariland 6280 with the surefire X200.

I looked at Safariland's fit chart and they didn't show a 6280 w/ X200 for the G34/35. Do they have this now, or are you using the 6280 w/ M3 for it?

surefire fits all m3 holsters correctly, no need to list them separately

I just got a 6280 for my G22/X200 today. (6280-836-131) I have been carrying in a 6280 made for the G22/M3 and it fit, but it rattled a bit. Much nicer now.
Safariland just returned my email: "Hello, in regard to your e-mail, No at this time we are only manufacturing for the M3 & M6 for the Glock 35."
Too bad these take a month or more to get.

I stand corrected! Well, 12 months ago, that is what Safariland told me, as well as reading it in some weaponlight reviews, nice to see that they have made a specific fit.

No one around here issues them, but I carry one for duty in a Safariland 200 "Top Gun". I think it is one of the best firearms I have ever owned.
However, I did swap the 3.5 for the regular connector. I was not comfortable with the 3.5.

Has anyone converted their G35 to a 357SIG?
Any Experience, opinions and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! Brian

By all accounts that I have read online and received in person from shooters at the local ranges, the KKM, Jarvis and Storm Lake .357 conversion barrels for the G35, G22, G23, G24 and G20 flat out work and deliver exceptional accuracy. If you're interested in getting the most mechanical accuracy that you can out of the conversion, consider buying a 'non-drop-in' barrel and having a gunsmith fit it to your slide and locking block.
The glock .40 cals are exceptionally versatile, since you can basically have three calibers (9mm, .40 and .357sig) in one gun for the cost of aftermarket barrels, oem mags (in the case of 9mm), and (possibly) inexpensive and easily replaced oem extractors and ejectors.

A number of us with Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (Phx, AZ) have the Glock 35 as duty pistols; however, most of us that I'm aware of have all changed over to .357 SIG with either KKM or Storm Lake conversions barrels. The Glock 35 in .357 SIG is a 100 yard pistol without question. I can't imagine going back to .40 - what a handicap... Although, it's nice that the office provides ample ammunition to practice with on a monthly basis.

Re JMHalverson Post:
Good to hear from you!
Your force's conversion to the 357sig using the G35 as a basis seemed to me a good way to create a great gun that is not currently offered by glock.
JMHalverson, may I ask: ?How does the RECOIL and SOUND LEVEL compare between the G35 40cal and the G35-357 Sig? ?Do you use compensated / ported G35s?
I realize that the flat shooting 357sig has accuracy, distance and stopping benefits over the 40 cal -- What else do you like about using the 357sig?
thank you! Brian

Brian,
Those of us who have them just have standard Glock 35s with 3.5# triggers and standard length magazine releases. The barrels aren't ported and most of us have the KKM barrel; however, were I to do it again I'd got to Topglock and use the 5% discount we get from here and buy the Storm Lake barrel for under $100. The .357 SIG is a great caliber and my opinion is that it's easier to shoot that the .40. The recoil feels less to me, but you're right in that it's louder. The accuracy is day and night difference, with lots of guys changing to .357 SIG simply because they can earn a higher qualification score. To be honest, I took my .40 barrel out of the 35, put in the .357 barrel and never looked back - the .40 barrel is still unfired. The only thing to be ware of is that if you're using Federal 125 gr. Gold Dot the velocity out of the Glock 35 comes pretty close to the maximum rating for the standard Level II vest - just something to think about.
I carry a Glock 33 as backup and a 10.25" Colt 5.56mm along with the Glock 35 and I really feel I've got the best combination out there. Once you shoot .357 SIG you may well feel that you might as well be throwing rocks if you're shooting .40......I think there's that much of a difference.
Oh, did I mention that the caliber rarely jams....you're stuffing a 9mm projectile into a .40 caliber hole....it couldn't be a better design for reliable functioning.

Attention:JMHalverson
Thank you for your feedback on the G35 to 357sig conversion, your experience really helps!
I have only read about using the 5.56s. However what I have read is that anything longer than the 14.5" and preferably the 10.25 is hell getting out of vehicles and shooting especially with vests on.
Sounds like you have all the firepower you need to stay safe out there.
I am a civilian. My brother-in-law is a LEO. I appreciate the work you guys do for the rest of us every day! Most people don't realize just how dangerous a "simple" traffic stop can turn out to be. I get the creeps when ever I see a vehicle with blacked out windows pulled over and the LEO apporaching it on a "siomple" traffice stop -- you guys must have nerves of steel!
Thank you!
Stay Safe!

Thanks for your comments. If you get a 35 you'll be happy. It's nice to have a pistol that can shoot three calibers just by changing the barrels. The 35 is becoming increasingly popular, especially with true shooters who can appreciate the longer sight radius, although some seem to be choosing it just because it balances really well. Right now my agency has about a two page list of approved pistols, but if you ask the range guys what to buy they'll all tell you to get a 31 or 35 with the conversion barrel. If the day ever comes when we all have to carry the same pistol it'll probably be a Glock 31.
While the .357 SIG is great, you'd certainly find .40 cheaper to shoot. I just feel luck they'll give us 200+ rounds free of .357 every month to practice with. If it wasn't free I'd probably have gone with the Glock 34 in 9mm..

I am glad to hear you are shooting your ammo alotment each month. I wish all LEOs would do so for their own good.
Shooting with a 9mm conversion barrel would pay for itself quickly in practice (versus shooting the 357/40cal). At the end of each practive session I could finish off with the intended self defense rounds (357 or 40 cal) so I would have that in my muscle memory while still cutting the cost of practice. Or I could shoot white box 180 grain 40s and then 357s at the end of practice to cut practice costs.
While I admit it is not the very best method of practice, it is better than those who practiced with 38 specials and then carried 357 magnums. And of course when the crap flew they were shooting a wild cat that they were not practiced with.
In a way I do it now. I shoot the white box 115grain 9mm FMJ for most of my practive session and then shoot my defense ammo at the end of the session.
If I had unlimited funds I believe it would be best to shoot only my defensive (or carry) ammo. IMHO (This discussion is regarding defensive practice and not competitive practice)
Thank you for your help!

I have a KKM bbl in 357 for my G29 and I've had problems with it. Maybe the bbls work better in the longer slide models. I'm interested in buying a 357 bbl for my G35 but I want one that works without any hang ups.

Would you please elaborate on the problems you have experienced with your KKM 357 barrel in your G29? I would be very interested in learning more!
Thank you!

WRONG. KSP switched to the 35 from the S&W 1076. This happened after a short trial of the S&W Tactical .45 that was never issued in mass although they purchased and later sold enough to equip the entire agency. Coupled with the 27 this is the first time they have compatable duty weapons and BUG's.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in Kentucky just issued Glock 35's to all their deputies (approx 350). One has been stolen after an officer was subdued. It has the Department Patch on the slide if you happen to run across it.

Most agencies around here that issue, issue the 22, but some allow the 35. I carry a 35. Holster selection is a little more limited with a 34/35, but worth the effort.
And most agencies don't allow modification on a duty gun, so a conversion barrel wouldn't be allowed. I don't know of anyone locally that issues or allows the .357, although I'd like to try it someday.
