some states limit the mag capacity for " hunting rifles". Strange but true. Ironic that the 5 round mags for Fal's and AR's cost many time what the 20's and 30's do as well. but its a volume thing. Personally what I'd do is take a 20 and "plug it" just like a shotgun, put a wooden block or something in the mag to limit the capacity. I'd want a letter( maybe a fax) stating legality of that before I did. This is going to be more of an issue with the advent of the 6.8 MM for the AR. Iowa has an antlerless centerfire rifle season this year with a .24 min caliber and a 6 shot max capacity including the mag and chamber. It would be sweet if you could plug existing mags to make them legal, just like shotguns. As a matter fo fact, I should email the Iowa dnr and ask. You might try Bushmaster or DPMS.

20rd magazine with a wooden block in the bottom, cut to fit. If statute language requires a permanency of modification, or otherwise has a "not readily removable" provision, insert a screw or bolt through the sides of the mag body and the block.
This mod has worked well for me.
Check www.johnmasen.com 5 rounder for $15.95

I have a couple of these, and they've worked fine so far:

Brownells sells two different ones and I've been happy with both. One is metal that hangs just below the receiver and the other is plasic/polymer that is almost flush.

Colt used to. I don't know if they do anymore but I have two I got with a H-bar I bought several years back. The mags were factory with a U shaped piece of metal riveted to the floor plate to limit the rounds to five. They were originally 20 round mags and one became that again when I drilled the rivet out and removed the piece of sheet metal. Of course they would want a premium price IF they had them.
bushmaster makes them too.
