View Full Version : Heavy buffer does it make a difference in recoil??
I was wanting to know any here use or tried a heavy buffer in their carbine???
heavy buffer keeps bolt/barrel locked together after firing slightly longer than standard, this transmitts slightly more recoil as the impulse is longer - you would be hard pressed to feel the difference though

What JWP said...the whole purpose is to slow down the cyclic rate in carbines...improves reliability and feeding/extraction in the M4 short gas systems.

- until you try shooting an AR really FAST. It adds up in a hurry.
I finally made it to the range this morning. And I finally got to shoot my AR with the 9mm buffer, I could only tell when I was standing, other than that so fare not a big differnce...;c

check out the endine buffers, they cost more than heavy but according to some posters on ar15.com, they are the heat
Yeah I read about them on ARFCOM. but I'm noty going to spend $80 bucks on a buffer, it's not like the gun kicks like a mule or anything...

10-roger, i hear ya but what was interesting in the chats was that the buffer really made a diff in muzzle climb- i recon similiar to barrel porting. the talk was how fast the 2nd shot was. a combo of slight recoil/muzzel climb reduction is everything a growing boy needs. one of the testers stated that he was amazed at how much of a diff it was to have the buffer installed? i dont know. these damn guns are like modifing a car, always something to add?

It isn't about recoil! It is about bolt bounce and faster follow up shots (no muzzle flip).
