Yeah, I saw the real pictures as well.

Harley used to make good race bikes back in the days. Real good dirt track racers all the way until the early 1970s if memory serves.

Now they have dragsters only for racing.

My friend Shawn Higbee started out racing Harley's and worked his way up to a ride with Fast By Ferracci the Factory Ducati Team.

The XR750 HD engine is still the dominant racing platform in AMA dirttrack racing. It's the most successful purpose made motorcycle racing engine ever. You can't actually buy the bike anymore, you have to buy the engine and build the racebike yourself. Harley only sells the engine.

This is the old "bail out" riding technique taught to riders many years ago, when HD was the one of the few bikes around. They even taught them to lay the bike down and climb on top of it as it slides down the road. LOL!!!

If you look at the pics, it tells you exactly what happened.
1. You steer a bike by countersteering. Push right, go right. Push left, go left.
2. He was in a right hand turn, pegs nearly on the ground and took his left hand off the bar. Ergo: he pushed right. (he just had to look kewl for the camera)
3. This put his pegs in the pavement without benifit of the left hand on the bar to bring it back up.
4. He learned the hardway what countersteering is.

I would also suggest that he probably never attended a MSF course, or he didn't learn much from it. Locking up the front wheel in a turn while leaned over????

Hey, we must have had the same training. That mantra is always going through my head when riding.

My wife never believed it until I showed her one day.

50 MPH, hands off, straight down the road.

Used left hand index finger to push gently on the left mirror, we move left.

Right hand index finger push gently on the right mirror, we move right.

Pretty convincing demonstration. She still doesn't believe it. LOL.

Very good point about countersteering. Something very few new riders and some experienced riders have no clue about. Statistics show that on 80% of accidents that happen on a corners the bike was easily capable of making the corner but the rider just didn't do the right thing.

Plain and simple, he ran out of cornering clearance. Too fast for the turn on a bike so low.

You don't need both hands on the bar to counter-steer. Pulling on the bar as well as pushing on it works. During warm-up at the track and during the cool off laps after a race, I used to one-hand it through the corners. Not for show, just to give myself a rest....

I now ride a Harley and man you really have to be careful going around corners. On my V-Rod without even trying I ground the brake pedal and bottom of the shroud from leaning it over too far...

Actually I believe Harley put a VR1000 on the podium at a race a few years ago. I think it was a third place finish.
