View Full Version : Anyone ever mount a fwd vertical grip on a 45 degree mount?

I've never used a vertical grip before. I see them in magazines and such and just don't think my hand would fit well on it. I'm wondering if anyones ever canted one 45 degrees to the weak-side with one of them 45-degree rail mounts.
Or am I all wet and it's fine to grip it totally up'n'down? I'm thinkin 1/2 to a Sten would be a good position is all.

LOL, as soon as I saw the 45* comment, I thought Sten.
Never seen it done, never read about it. Are you a really big fella? If not, then I don't see why a more traditional position wouldn't be in order. However, different strokes for different folks, right?
Hell, why not just got with the 90* and get it over with.
You know what, I'm gonna try it right now, just to say I did... ;e

Okay, just snapped it on.
As much as I hate to say it, it doesn't feel too bad; however, I just don't see it as being too practical for everyday shooting. Having a VFG mounted at the correct position enhances position, but this, well, I don't really know how to describe it --
Maybe the best description is this: it kinda feels like holding a Glock sideways, you know, gangsta style, and bustin' off some caps...
I think I'll switch back to normal, quick-like.
EDIT: OOPS, forgot the picture. Okay, tried it again and it feels bad, very bad. Not only does it feel bad, it look retarded as well. YMMV. ;f

I saw a used AR at a local shop with TWO forward grips mounted to the four-rail handguard; one vertical, the other hanging off the left rail (as above). Please understand these were both mounted at the same time, and apparently they were left in place at all times.
;P
You really cannot imagine how goofy this looked.
Kinda like a WWII anti-ship mine.
I'm not kidding.
Really.

A VFG at any other position then 6 o’clock (or REALLY close to it) is just looking to catch/hang up on all sorts of stuff… it’ll be hard to transport in most cases too…
The main reason however is that a VFG placed at the 6 o’clock is just plain easier/faster to “drive around”… WAAAAY more natural!
If you put the grip on sideways you get more gangsta street cred. Like shooting sidearms sideways.
All the hardcore gangstas are tricking out their ARs with sideways grips.
 ;f

Here's a thought...
Turn da AR itself sideways like a true gangsta would and da foegrip be vertical and hella cool!
Try it, it feels mo natural!

And just to be safe, put one of htem rail-mounted front/rear 3-gun style sights on the right side so when flipped you STILL have sights.
No. Wait. That would be MORE helpful.
(I've never understood how "tactical operators" and 3-gun folk can do that.)

Seriously, it's not that tough. Shoulder your rifle and then rotate your wrist and the rifle to the right until it feels comfortable. To me it actually feels more natural.

Dale, you are SUCH a homeboy. LOL. Maybe we should call that rail sight the Homeboy Sight anyhow. ROTFL!!!!
Got to paw over a mac-daddy'd fwd-grip AR today. Now that I've handled it, I can see how I'd hold it just fine. Belay this entire thread. Fwd grip belongs VERTICAL. Felt just fine. Just LOOKS like it wouldn't.
