I used to use Mobil 1 and change every 3-5K. Now I use Amsoil and change every 5-7K. Just wondering what you guys do. I also use a Mobil 1 or Amsoil filter.

Amsoil or Mobil 1 and 10k.

Mobil 1, OEM filter, every 5K-6K miles. Multiple oil analyses say that I could go even longer.

I run amsoil in my GT for 15k and the same with my G/F's car with filter changes @7500.

In my old Dart I change the Mobil-1 15w50 every couple of years or at 1000 miles which ever comes first.Last time it was at 2 years and 800miles:)

For severe duty 3000mi or 3 months, 6 months or 6000mi for non-severe duty. I use the same program synthetic or conventional. For moderate duty somewhere in between. ;a

I would never let a passenger (non-commercial) vehicle go past 1 year or 7000 miles before changing the oil and filter.

I run between 15K and 20K using Amsoil in my truck. I change the filters about every 5K to 6K. I have 185,000 miles on my 96 Ram and it runs like a top.

10k miles

I do what the container of Amsoil says... I think its 36K miles or one year... normally I hit one year first, which ends up being between 10 and 12K, so thats when I change the oil. I change the filter every 6K tho.

And any unused Amsoil gets turned into Gun Oil. :)

36k a year might be fine and dandy for a large diesel that has an oiling system that holds gallons and gallons of oil, but in a 4 to 5 quart system I wouldn't push past 12k or 15k miles.

Depends on what amsoil is used.

In NoVa just driving to work counts as "severe duty".

In NoVA if a road speed limit is 45 and your avg spped is 20 then your car is considered severe duty.

If you travel on routes 66,28,495,50,29,15,95,7100,7700 etc then you are in the severe duty group.

That being said Mobil 1 every 3 thousand miles.

I'd like to see the oil tested after 20k and see what you still think of it.

10 on mobile 1. Once let it got 15 w/ no ill effects. I'd go 15 all the time on amsoil.

I change the filter when i change the oil but go with the Mobile 1 filter which seems to last. wouldn't do that with a cheap filter.

I wouldn't go more than 10k, the oil filter is usually the limiting factor. Change more often if vehicle is used for short trips or hard use (towing, etc.)

10k using Mobile 1. I never did buy into that crap about changing oil every 3k. Just a marketing ploy to sell more oil. ;)

Castrol Synthetic. Every year or 15,000-miles as per the BMW scheduled service program. I figure that those Germans may know something about the maintenance of their vehicles. If the motor blows, then they can always replace it with a new engine.

Mobil 1 and a good ole AC Delco PF52 every 3,000-3,500. My buddies say it's overkill, but it's my baby and she's still going strong at 102K.

I have been running amsoil synthetic 0w30 in my e36 325i for almost ten years now and change once a year ( about 10k miles/yr). i change the filter every 4 months ( mahle filter). Burn about .5 to 1 liter of oil per year. I have close to 115k miles on my car and no problems. Though the cooling system on these cars is a cruel joke.

In my 2500HD I use Amsoil at 10k mile intervals. In my Trans Am (which is driven very hard on the track) it gets changed evry 2-3k miles, or ASAP after I know I got it hot.

you guys are nuts... no oil is good 5k-36k. 99% of oils lose visosity at 2k-3k. jumt my thoughts

Wrong.

If you would do some research, submit some used oil analysis and learn a little, you will find many things that are true and not true.

Most conventional (dino) oil can stand up to 6-8k mile oil change intervals in a clean engine. I'm not talking about a gunked up Chrysler 2.7 in a Sebring.

Most Synthetics can go 15k miles or more, especially these non-retail brands. Honda is now reccomending 10K mile oil change intervals on REGULAR oil.

BMW reccomends 15K mile oil change intervals with synthetic.

Mobil is guaranteeing their EP oil for 15K miles, meaning if you have engine failure after using their Mobil 1 EP, they will pay.

I used to be a believer of short oil changes. 3k miles or less. I thought I was doing something good. All I was doing was wasting money and resources.

I have converted to Mobil 1 and will go 7500 miles for 2 used oil analysis and at that time, I'll see what the lab reccomends.

I think one could make a good argument that changing oil too often is harder on an engine than hyper extended oil changes using synthetic. The argument would be based on the damage done while the oil pump fills the filter (I realize some can be prefilled most of the way, but very few actually are) and no oil is being pumped to the bearings or valvetrain.

www.bobistheoilguy.com <-- happy reading :)

I run German Castrol ("GC") in a high-revving (8000+ rpm) car that is beaten on daily. Depending on conditions, ~7500k drain intervals (I'm sure it could go longer).

409,000 miles without an oil change! Yes, you read that right.

I change Mobil 1 every 5K. And, I recently adopted the practice of adding Lucas upper cylinder lubricant to each tank of gas, and wow, does it ever make acceleration silky smooth.

Do you all think i would be cool with changing the oil in my mustang once a year? It gets maybe 5-6k tops in a year and i use mobil one with hastings filters. I dont drive it much, mainly around town, and its gets kinda driven hard.

Amsoil 5W-20 oil with Amsoil Super Duty filter: 5000 mi. with oil sample and test at Blackstone Labs. They tell me everytime I could go from 7,500 to 10,000+ from the quality of the sample. Just won't go past 5,000 before the warranty is gone at 100,000.

It's fine to go that route. I put about 8,000 miles a year on my Miata tops. The oil got changed once a year with Mobil 1 or Amsoil and it never burned more than half a quart of oil in that time.
