Well, now I've done it. My curiosity has me in trouble as usual.

I took apart my PM40 and now can not seem to figure out how to get it back together.

The post with the photos for the upper are great. Does anyone have detailed instructions for the lower? I can not figure it out.

Thanks!

Think of it this way... you'll eventually get it back together one way or another & no matter what you'll learn a valuable lesson... you'll either learn your Kahr inside & out or you'll learn that gunsmiths are expensive! ;f

Seriously, how far did you take the lower down? All the way? How did you get out the little itty-bitty pin that keeps the trigger pin from walking?

This one:

Unfortunately no, none here for sure & none anywhere else that I know of... HOWEVER, maybe I can help:

Before you do anything print out both of these links:

http://www.kahrshop.com/images/p_frame_asmbly.gif

http://www.kahrshop.com/cgi-bin/itemlist.asp?mod=14&asm=1&imgid=2

Now, 1st things 1st… EVERYTHING must be installed in the rear of the lower (well, except for the side grip panel & grip panel pin… you want to save that for the VERY last) BEFORE ANY of the trigger parts can be installed… if you install the trigger parts 1st you won’t be able to install the trigger bar!

Installing the rear lower parts… 1st grab the Ejector (#31), the Cocking Cam Spring (#16) & the Cocking Cam (#15) parts… all of these parts have to be dropped in from the top together. The Cocking Cam Spring (#16) definitely has a right way & a wrong way that it goes in… see Figure 1 before reading on… the “left little arm” of the Cocking Cam Spring (#16) slides into the little hole (NOT the big hole!) in the Ejector’s right side. The Cocking Cam’s (#15) little hole slides on to the Cocking Cam Spring’s (#16) “right little arm”… now you have to hold all of this together while you insert it into the frame from the top… the 2 arms that point opposite of each other on the Cocking Cam (#15) should be facing up. Now insert the Cocking Cam Pivot Pin (#32) in from the right side of the frame to hold all those parts in place. Next you want to insert the Trigger Bar Spring (#14) into the right side of the frame… it goes in just like the 1st link shows, round part to the front… now slide in the Trigger Bar (#13) in through the right side of the frame making sure its bottom edge sits inside the Trigger Bar Spring (#14)… the Trigger Bar (#13) front end will end up free floating above the trigger guard. Next rotate the Cocking Cam (#15) around so the Trigger Bar’s (#13) back arm can slip in behind the bottom of the Cocking Cam (#15). You’ve now assembled the rear.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v733/Michigun/Kahr/K_M_CockingCamSpring.jpg

Now for the trigger parts… It’s VERY helpful to have a “blind pin” (it should fit a little loose for ease) for this next part as it gives you your 2nd hand back.

Okay... 1st thing you want to do is to get your "blind pin" ready... next insert the trigger into its position up & in through the trigger guard & insert your "blind pin" in from the left side of the frame just enough to hold the trigger there... after that, hook up the trigger bar to the trigger's little trigger bar pin... now comes the tricky part, both the trigger spring & the trigger spacer need to go in at the same time. (The trigger spacer's "step-down" section fits inside the trigger spring in from the right side.) This is best handled by a pair of needle nosed pliers grasped on to the diameter (front to back) of the trigger spring... the flat side of the trigger spring MUST face to the front & then slightly down at about 45 degrees from there... now as you press the trigger spring & trigger spacer into place (you'll be fighting the trigger spring's little "arms/wings" as they start to contact the outside edges of the trigger) in the trigger be applying some pressure on your "blind pin" so when the trigger spacer's hole lines up with it the "blind pin" slides through... once this is all done carefully start in the trigger pin from the right side of the frame pushing out the "blind pin" as you go, depending on how good of a fit your "blind pin" is you may need to wiggle it a bit in order for the trigger pin to slide through each part.

I'm hoping the following pictures show you well enough how each part sits! (see attached)

Putting in the Slide Stop Spring (#29) is REAL easy:

I’m sure you’ll have some questions once you get going… this isn’t real hard to do, but it’s hard to write down…

Let me know if ya pulled out the mag catch. ^c

I wouldn't say I'm the man just yet hayseed_40, you haven't put my babblings to actual use yet! ;f (Heck, G19NDE may be cussing me come tomorrow! ;))

(Going from memory here... no gun in front of me & I haven't stripped a Kahr lower in a while...)

By the way, a complete detail strip guide for the Kahr lower is on the schedule for this January… I’ll do one for the poly frame 1st & then I’ll do one for the steel frame after that. ^c (I’ve put it off long enough I guess.)

Michigun,

I have to agree with hayseed_40...

You are the man. I am printing all this out and going to give it a go. I'll let you know how I do.

Thanks!

I’d still like to know how far you took it down & how the trigger pin & grip panel removal went for ya… just curious!

I hope the above helps… I’ll also offer to assemble it for free for ya if it comes down to it… send her to me & I’ll assemble it that night & resend it in the morning how you instruct me to… I’d only ask that you include enough for the return shipping. ^c

Michigun,
I would like to know first, how you got such clear close up digital pictures and second, how you got all the red arrows and text on the pictues.
Thanx in advance.

Thomas

Have Michigun send it to me for field testing (include ammo please) after he re-assembles, and then I will send back to you.

Thanks to Michigun my little friend is all back together. A trip to the range tomorrow will prove if I did it correctly or not.

The grip panel removal was a challenge at first. I noticed that there appeared to be a hole on the left side of the frame to put a pin punch through to drive the pin out. On closer inspection it looked like just a mold mark, so I dug the pin out from the right side. This is where the link you included to the parts catalog will come in handy so I can replace the gouged cover that I have now. I was able to open the hole on the left side of the frame for future removal. But I doubt that I will be taking the lower apart any time soon! :)

As for the trigger pin goes, I never noticed that little pin until you pointed it out. I drove the trigger pin out with a punch and a small hammer and it pushed the pin down on it's way out.

Thanks again for all your help.

BTW are the all steel guns assembled the same way? I have been considering an MK40 Elite...

That's easy... you get your boss at work to sign off on a $1,800 digital camera for "work use". ;)

(FYI, my little $300 Canon PowerShot A95 does them just as well though... lighting is key. ^c)

I just used "Paint" for those, which comes standard with every Windows version I've ever worked on... I know, not very high speed, but it does the job! :)

I have to commend ya then as most would’ve stopped at the 1st sign of trouble. ;f
