Since everyone says that the Glock 34/35 is the same size as a 1911 how about some pics. I have a Glock 35 but I don't have a 1911 to comapre it to. It seems much bigger but that just may be an illusion.

i have an issue of Gun World, where there is a review of the G34, and its about the same size as a 1911.

I have a Colt Gold Cup series 70 1911 and a G35 and they are pretty colse in size. The G35 appears allot longer when they are not right up against each other but I think it's the fact that the slide hangs off the end of the frame on the Glock and gives you that preception of length. In reality, it is only a little bit bigger than the 1911.
The size of a Mil Spec full size 1911 should be as follows:
6.5" sight radious.
5" barrle
8.5" overall length
35-40 oz. empty
The G35 specs are as follows:
7.32" sight radious
5.32" barrle
8.75" overall length
24.5 oz. empty

pistolwhip,
thanks for the measurements. can i trouble you for a width comparison of the two?
thanks
A 1911 Govt 5" model is very close in size. The only real difference that matters is the thickness. A 1911 with thin grips is noticably thinner.

The 35 is a little longer than my 1911.Not quite a half inch but it was not a good fit in the 1911 sholder holster
A few more measurements, the 1911 has thin grips, so you can add a quarter inch there.
G34 1911
Slide width 1.08 .91
grip width 1.178 1.062(thin grips)
frame width 1.158 .760(above trigger guard)
depth of frame
and slide 1.47 1.537(taken ahead of trigger guard)
trigger to back
of grip 2.60 2.55(short trigger)
