View Full Version : Yes, Another IDPA Holster Question
I now have a pair of G19s, a new Gen 3 and a much older unit. I am currently using a Blade Tech paddle holster for local IDPA matches which I suspect maybe illegal because "light" can get through the belt tunnel. My question is in two parts.
A) Is my current Blade Tech paddle holster legal?
B) What kind of Kydex holsters have you competitors had "officially" blessed for IDPA use?
(For leather, I prefer the Galco Avenger which I'm confident is legal.) Thanks for your help.

basically any OWB kydex holster will work as long as there isnt a offset. The holster has to be right up against the belt.
The IDPA rulebook has pictures in it. Its availible for download on the IDPA website.
To be more specific, I guess what I'm looking for is holster recommendations or identification of holsters that have been survived scrutiny at an IDPA state, regional, or national match; not just a local match where equipment is less scrutinized. Once this list of holsters is created, I'm hoping the BladeTech paddle will be on it. If not, I'll get something else.
Thanks..... :) celot

The BladeTech paddle is legal.
It was at the Maryland State match.
It was at the South Carolina State match.
It was at the Carolina Cup.
It was at the North Carolina State match.
It is every week.

I was on IDPA web sight and what I found was anything that you would use to conceal or for open carry is legal. But in BOLD LETTERS it stated anything deemed competition from the manufacturer is not legal. So if its not a racegun type holster you should be fine.

Caution, the statement above is NOT a correct reflection of the rules - there is at least one very popular holster (the Uncle Mike's Belt Holster) that many folks use that is specifically mentioned as not meeting the new rules.
The elimination of the 'approved list' makes this a difficult area for those that are new to the sport.
For a low cost entry level holster, consider the Uncle Mike's Paddle holster or the Fobus OWB holster. (Note, the Fobus Roto-Paddle is not legal for IDPA.)
I'll second the recomendation above for the holsters from www.pistolpacking.com - very well made.
My favorite is the safariland 560 paddle - used by a number of folks where I shoot IDPA.
