I was asked to give a review on my ATN Ultra Didigtal red Dot, so here it is.
I own a small aresenal of tactical guns.
A Bushy AR A2 20" HBAR SS, with mil-spec colaps. stock.
A Savage 10FPLE .308 with a 4.5x14 Nikon Mil-DOT
a G22
soon to add a Rem tactical shooty or a Mossberg , havent decided.
I shoot sub MOA from 200-500 yards.
I am not in any formal competitions , except for the other that are on the range at the same time I am ;f .
Now I have set my ablilities and taste in guns, I can explain the situation without too much ridcule.
I was on the hunt for a cheap pistol cal. carbine.
looked at all, WAY to much $ for blasting redneck targets, you know cans bottles and milk jugs.
I look all over and got great info and real world tresting from real shooters.
The one that was inexpensive and dead nuts, AND shot 9x19........ready?
That Hi-point 995 carbine! Anyone who owns one knows it shoots dead on.
NOW, i gotta put some fast target aqusition system, ask my favorite gunshop owner... he breaks out an ATN ULTRA Digital.
"its just like the ACOG and EOTECH, he says...;g .. ok I say I take it. At 170 bux, why not, I can always use it on the AR.
I have used the EoTech, but not the ACOG.
They are similar except the reticle, and outter construction. LOL, in other words Red DOTs with batteries.
the ATN has 5, yes 5 different reticles.a +, a dot, T, a T with a dot, and a + with a dot.T has a gap in the crossing (see website of ATN http://www.atncorp.com/DayOptics/ReflexSights/ATNUltraSightDigital )
very thin lines and small dot.
brightness control to eliminate glare from the laser reflection off the coated glass. Buttons so far seems completed water resistant, not sure of PROOF, I aint throwing my guns in the water for anything, but to help rescue a mermaid :).
I have dropped it, knocked it off the bench, somewhat normal abuse, except for tossing the Hipoint ( with ATN mounted) into the back of my P/U. The ATN seems to handle noraml abus well.
Accuracy you ask? Holds a zero perfectly, considering it mounts to a weaver type rail, with thumb style screws.
For close ranges (25-50 meters) I have it with the DOT for this range. The clay pigeons are dead with one shot and multiple clays are gone as fast as I can aquire, squeeze.
75-100 I use either the T, +, ot T with dot. as good as BUIS's.
I can say without any bias opinions it is well worth the money. I will Add this, I dont see my self in any battlefields anytiome soon, so spending the 300 plus bucks on the other , just dosen't seem justifyable. For paper villians, Yotes, or other varmits, including the kind that come trough the window at 2 am, it is well woth the money.
One thing I did find troublesome was:
There is a screw on the bottom seems to hold down the front section on top, it wiggled loose about 2 times before I put LokTite on it on the 3rd go, No problem since, nor any other problems other than that.
I have yet to change the battery, I have used and played with, shown off the sight to all sorts of people and not even seem to have diimed the light. I shoot 4-5 days straight and then go a week or two, and shoot some more. I think they will last a good while. It is also a typical watch battery and can be found out any Wally World.
You'll love this, I take it off the AR, mount it on the hi-point, let anyone and everyone shoot it, I bet I could have sold that damned HP 50 times at 10 different ranges, just because the ATN. What does that tell ya?
