View Full Version : .357 sig conversion on G23 question
Is my understanding correct in that a G23 can be converted to .357 by a barrel change? Any other differences between the G23 and its .357 counterpart?
thanks
My info was that the barrel change is acceptable on any of the finger-grip frame style 23's. I have an earlier 23, and was advised by a Glock rep not to change to 357 with this version. I have a 23C which works just great with the 357 (32C) barrel (although it's louder).
The trick to determine if a 40 can shoot 357 is to strip the upper from the lower, 'point' the lower at your face, and look at the front of the front rails. If you see steel inside the black plastic, it is safe to shoot 357 without fear of damaging your pistol. Thus sayeth the instructor in my armorer's class.

An dif you want to give it a go, I have an unfired, stainless .357 Sig barrel for the G23 for sale down in the Parts column.
I bought it, dry-fitted it, and never bought the first round.
Does it work the other way around? Can you buy put a .40 barrel in a 31,32, or 33? How 'bout a 9mm barrel?

A .40 will work on a G31, 32, 32.
The factory standard 9mm barrel will not. It's outside diamter is smaller than the hole in the slide. It will be loose and possibly cause damage when fired.
You would need a 9mm conversion barrel. Essentially, a regular ol' 9mm barrel with an outside diameter that matches the stock .40/.357 Sig.

Just make sure your 23 is the newer 3-pin frame and not the 'older' 2-pin variety for your .357 conversion. I'm not sure but early
G23s did come in the '2-pin' variety..correct me if I'm wrong..
I have a 3 pin 2nd generation Glock 23 which I have converted to 357sig and 9mm. The 9mm is a conversion barrel and I use it for plinking as without an extractor change it should not be considered 100% reliable...although no problems so far. My Glock has the longer rails as was pointed out in another post. So I have the ability to shoot 40,357sig and 9mm from the same pistol. 9mm does of course also require 9mm magazines.

Any issues with the magazines??? I recently aquired a 23 myself and am looking to get a .357 barrel to have the capability. I had heard that some .40 magazines for whatever reason did not want to feed .357 cartridges well. I would prefer to simply buy a spare barrel and use the supply of G22 and 23 magazines I have. I plan to test them for reliability in my gun but was wondering what other info might be out there regarding the .357/.40 magazine question. :)
I've had no magazine issues..but I use full capacity mags. I have not used the conversion barrel with 10 round mags.

I installed a regular old G-32 barrel into my otherwise stock G-23 (3-pin frame). It works great. The only reliablity problem I had was a few FTF. After a call to Glock, I put .357 followers in my .40 cal mags and have been going strong ever since(1000+ rounds) without any failures. The .357 followers also work fine for the .40 S&W cartridges when I use the .40 cal barrel (which isn't often). It's a great "combo" gun.
