I have been carrying pretty much 24/7 the past couple weeks after my brother and his family suffered a home invasion. I would love to share the story and I will do so at some point in th efuture but while the investigation is ongoing I will leave the media share the story:

http://westervelt.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6

I have come to the conclusion that haveing the Glock 21 strapped to me is reasuring but the weight of that pistol and it's size is just not to my lifestyle. So, the past several days I have reverted to carying my wife's Taurus M85 5-shot 38 and while I like that gun I also want to make sure it is available to my wife.

So, I am trying to decide on a new CCW and I am leaning heavily towards the G-36. I am going that route as I like the power of the 45 ACP and I like the thiner profile fr the G-36 as opposed to the G-30. My hands are not real large and the G-36 feels great in my hands unlike some others that I knw prefer the G-30 for the bigger grip.

I have a buddy that caries a G-29 and also has a G-26 and he indicated that the G-26/G-27 is actually thinner and smalle then the G-36 so now I am including the G-27 in my list of options....

I can live with the lighter round capacity of the G-36 as my goal here is to find a small CCW weapon that is light enough that I will be able to carry it and keep it with me as a gun that is too big and bulky to have on me is a gun that I will leave at home the one day in my life when I need it most.

Thanks for any advise or oppinions good or bad...

The 26/27 is smaller but wider than the 36. The 36 is 1.13 and the 26/27 is 1.18. I have the 30 and find it to be my favorite however it is heavy. I would feel very comfortable carrying the 26 and have been thinking about getting one. While the 30 is nice because you can use the 21 mags in it, the 26 makes more sense. The 36 is close to the same size as the 19/23. Good luck in what ever you decide. I have shot the 36 and feel it is very nice, I'd stick with the track record of the 26 and I can't justify the 40 S&W for a PD gun.

I carry a G26 most of the time with factory 10 round mag and spare factory +2 in reserve. Both are loaded with Speer 124 +P SB Gold Dots.

Ammo is so much cheaper with the 9mm, therefore I can shoot more for the same $$$. You can't practice too much. CCW instructor told me that after you get where you can consistantly hit your target, then start learning to do so on the move to cover, i.e. less ammo $$$ more practice, practice, practice .....

Just bought a G30 to carry when the weather gets colder and clothes get heavier. The larger grip of the G30 actually feels better to me than the G36's.

Which ever you get, you can't go wrong.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Got a G26 that's why I am getting a G36.

Update October 23, 2005: Got the G30 instead. She handled the .45cp with ease.I felt the G36 and it felt just a tad too small for me. Wanted something a little more substantial for the .45acp. The G30 works for me and maybe the G36 will work for you. Who knows?

I think it would be hard to go wrong with any of your choices. Personnaly, I don't like the G27 all that well, for me the recoil with hot loads is a bit uncomfortable, which makes me not practice with it. Others like the G27. I use a G26 for pocket carry as primary or sometimes as a backup, and either a G19, G23 or G36 if I'm will be able to wear a holster of some sort with a jacket or vest. I like all of these guns and practice regularly with them, and they've been reliable. It doesn't bother me to be carrying a 9mmP, either, I just try to select good ammo. If you want .45, I think the G36 is hard to beat for CCW, but some people are really liking the new .45GAP, especially the G38 and G39. I don't have a problem with the .45GAP or the pistols chambered for it, but I'm pretty happy with the G36 for my .45, so I'm not planning to buy a Glock in .45GAP. Of course I wasn't really planning to buy any other Glocks when I bought my G19, I was just going to buy one, and I've ended up buying several, so who knows?

Thanks guys... I managed to make my choice based on a good deal... I just bought a Glock 30 so it will become my little buddy when I really don't want to carry it's big brother, the glock 21.

Good choice and congrats. You really could not of made a bad decision. I think that you will find the 30 is a great all around choice.

Own both the 30 and 36. I carry the 36 because it doesn't weigh a ton but the 30 is my favorite. Good choice. Now practice and teach the rest of the family. You can never start them to young.
