Help me out?
I carry a G17 on duty and love it. I have a G27 for off-duty but i'm not thrilled with it. I just think the 27 is a little too small for a .40 and, if I have a grip extension on the floor plate the grip is now about the same size as a Glock "compact" ie. 19/23 etc.

I was thinking about either a G19, a G23 or a G36. can anyone tell me about recoil, weight, comfort etc.?

I want to be able to carry comfortably all day, IWB in a t-shirt without printing. I was also looking at the Kahr PM9 but I love Glocks.

Any ideas? Thanks!

With my G26 12 rounder from Glock, my G26 is still a much smaller package than my G19. Since you already have a G17, I would consider a G26 with the Glock 12 round mags or a G19. The G19 is my personal favorite and it conceals well.

My Glock fetish began about 5 years ago with a G27 I got for CCW but now I've got 5 and all in 9mm. For a few years I've settled on the G19 for everyday CCW and I've found David DeFabio's advice to me that worn on the belt, the G19 size conceals so closely to the subcompact but it tends to be easier to shoot better - to be completely true. I carry it under T shirts frequently.
For reference, I'm 5'11" and about 170 lbs.

I really like my 19 but I find it easier to carry my Kahr P9. It is large enough to fit in my hand easily and it is easy to draw. But it is very slim and easier to conceal then the g19. I found that the PM9 was too small for my grip. I also did not enjoy shooting it at the range much.

If Glock came out with a single stack g19 I would buy it in a heart beat.

Mybe it could be called g19s

Well considering what forum you are asking this in, It should be obvious. Glock 19!!! However, you can always go with the Glock 26. I would stay with the same platform that you already carry on duty. Employ the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) rule.

The G-19/23/32 pistols are the perfect size. 15/13 +1 rounds are very effective for personal defense.

If your going to carry in an ankle holster you need to go with a G-26/27 or 33.

First try the G.A.P. G27 magazine baseplate from

www.concealablecontrol.com

If that doesn't make the G27 easier to shoot, since you have a G17 go for the G19 and a Milt Sparks VersaMax2 or Watch Six IWB holster.

Philly K-9,

I am not in LE and am still waiting on my CCW permit so can’t help you much with your off duty issue. I can help with the question about recoil. I purchased a NIB G19 last month and it is wonderful to shoot. The muzzle flip on the G19 in my opinion is very negligible and the G19 is very accurate. BTW I do have an Uncle Mike’s IWB holster that I’ll use when I get a permit. I only tried CC inside my residence of course and the G19 is very comfortable.

I like my G19 but I'm thinking about a PM9 when I want to put something in my pocket.

I bought a g27, was very unhappy firing it, was very jumpy even with the grip extender. Kept firing it, things got better but still didnt feel fuzzy with it so as soon as I saw the opportunity I traded it for a 26. I can tell a big difference carrying a 26 compared to a 19. Though if all I had to carry was a 19 I'm sure I would 'make do' without any problems :)

For me the 19 is the way to go. I have a 26 too but i can shoot the 19 sooo much better. Im sure with a lot of practice I could get used to the 26 but for me it is just too small to handle and shoot accuratly. Dont get me wrong, I can shoot the 26 at paper plates and hit them all day long but the 19 feels so much better in my hand and i can get on target much faster with it. I never realy did like the way the 26 felt in my hand even with the pinkey grip extension.

G19 was my first gun ever and will have it til I die. Bought a G36 for CCW but sold it and bought a PM9. Now the PM9 rides around with me everyday, with the G19 always close by just in case.

I would say get both the G19 and PM9. Eventually you will get the rest on your "want it now" wishlist just like the rest of us. I will not stop until I have at least 1 pistol in Glocks entire offering. I am crazy.

So far.....G19, G36(gone, RIP), G20, G17L, G34

G26 goes great with a G17. You can use the G17 mags in the G26. G26 is one accurate little gun.
Get a G26 and be happy;)

I have a 19 and a 26. The 19 is what I carry most. I only carry the 26 when clothing restrictions would cause the 19 to print. The 19, IMHO, is the perfect 9mm - it's small enough to conceal in 99% of situations yet it is large enough to shoot well. You have 15 rounds in one mag. I'm not a spray and pray guy, I just like the idea of not having to reload as often if need be. The chances of this are slim, but I like having the option. You can use you 17 mags in the 19 (or the 26).

Go with the 19. You won't be sorry.

I have a Glock 19 and a 36 and I love them both. The 36 is a "tad" slimmer, and feels slimmer too.

However, my 24/7 carry piece, even when carrying the 19 or 36 is my Kahr PM9. It fills a niche that the 19, 36, 26/27 can't even touch. If I were an off-duty Police Officer I would give serious consideration to the little Kahr.

My Brother is retired from 30 years as a large metropolitan city Police Officer, and off-duty he carried a J-Frame snubbie. The PM9 is today's version of a J-Frame.

Good luck in making your choice and stay safe.

I own both a G23 and a pm9. They are both great guns in my estimation. I work in an office and that is why I ended up getting the kahr. I think it's the perfect pocket gun. If you just want to wear something IWB I wouldn't go with the pm9. It doesn't make sense to get a gun that small to wear on your hip. Since you said you want something for IWB I would go with one of the glocks or larger kahrs.

I have been carrying a Glock of one type or another since 1991. I carried a model 22 on duty and a 23 or 27 off duty. I retired a few years ago and have carried the 27 more than anything else. I am a Glock fan. A short time ago a friend let me shoot his Kahr PM9. The next week I ordered one and have been carrying it ever since it came in. It shoots as well as my Glock 27, and is a lot easier to carry. I still love my Glocks, however, I will be carrying the Kahr until Glock makes something in the same size.

i carried a glock 26 for several months and am now carrying a kahr p9 covert. it is lighter, extremely accurate once i got used to the trigger, significantly thinner and much more comfortable to carry for me than the 26. i've never had any malfunctions through it...i didnt have any malfunctions in the glock either so both have been reliable guns. my reason for choosing the kahr over the glock is based mainly on the size/weight/concealability. i carry IWB @~4:00 with a fist kydex tuckable holster and have no problems with printing.

I carried a 22 on duty and a 23 off duty for years just never liked the 27. I am retired now and recently burchased a 26 to carry with the extended mag. Didn't like the 26 traded it off on a 17L and back to my 23. The 19/23 is the best size for me. But you will have to try as many as you can til you find what works best for you. You have the 17 so the 19 would be a good choice you already have extra mags if needed.
Good Luck

I am a retired police officer. I have been carrying Glocks since 1991 when my dept. converted to Glock mod. 22's. I also carried a Glock 27 off duty and undercover. This past year I was introduced to the Kahr PM9. I shot one that belonged to a friend of mine. I then ordered a PM9 for myself. I haven't carried the Glock since I got the PM9. I still like the Glock, however, the Kahr is much easier to carry and for the ranges this gun was intended it shoots as well as my Glock 27. If Glock made a gun this size I would own it, but until that happens I will be carrying the PM9.

SORRY DIDN'T REALIZE I HAD ALREADY REPLIED TO THIS POST.

If you're not thrilled with the size of the G27 for a .40, I don't think you could go wrong with either a G23, G19, G26 or PM9.

For size, weight and convenience the PM9 tops the list, followed by the G26. I've found both to be plenty accurate and 100 percent reliable. My PM9 spends more time by my side than any of my other guns because it can be carried pretty much 24/7 regardless of climate or clothing requirements.

If you aren't overweight like me, and your clothes actually fit or are a bit loose, you should have no problem conealing either a G19 or a G23. The G19 is my all-time top-o'-the-list carry gun. Unfortunately don't carry it as much as I'd like. If you carry a G17 regularly I think the G19 would make a very fine off duty gun!

The G23 is also a fine gun, but I just don't shoot it as well as the G19. For someone who DOES shoot them equally, there's no reason not to go with the G23, aside from sticking with one caliber.

All in all, I think you'll be very happy with whatever you end up with from that list.

Broke my favorite G27 holster yesterday. So...

I left my PM9 as BUG on the ankle with ranger 127gr +p+, and I moved my MK9 with 147gr Golden Saber out of the safe and onto my belt (with my Alessi IWB holster.) The MK9 and PM9 make a nice pair, like a brace of Kahrs you could say, and they share the same mags.

I feel equally as well protected, and the thinner spare magazine is easier to carry in a pocket as well.

I made up my mind and bought a Kahr PM9! I love this weapon for off-duty carry. My next weapon WILL be a Glock 19.

I also have a Glock 27 that I carry with a Glock 23 magazine outfitted with an A&G sleeve and I love it. I'd rather have a 9mm G19 as opposed to the .40 S&W but still, very nice.

Thanks to all!

I am both an active and retired police officer 35 years, god thats old. I use the g19 because i shoot it well and is is balanced for me. I own others a 26 27 23 30 sig 220 ,239 etc . I keep comong back to the 19 because it is easy to carry and hide, it has a lot of bbs and I am pretty good with it. In the summer I carry appendix position using a blade tech IWB and in the winter I use a Kramer pancake or a PCS holster. I also carry my 26 in the summer using either a blade tech or a PCS belt slide. I dont sress up any more just shorts and a polo shirt in the summer and jeans and a swaet shirt in the winter.
hope this helps
