Anyone here watch the Best Ranger Competition 2005 on Discovery Channel? I caught all three episodes last night and really enjoyed them. The interesting thing for me was the pistol shooting portion of the match. They were shooting at steel plates with 9mm handguns. Naturally I expected them to shoot Berettas or Sigs.....Nope. They were shooting USP's  Didn't know anybody but Special Forces used USP's and I thought only in 45 ACP. Anybody know more about this?

Members of 75th Ranger Regiment fall under the scope of SOCOM (special operations command.) Meaning that mission direction and funding come from the same dollars that pay for navy seals, green berets, etc. They are all considered special ops, which gives them access to that type of equipment, such as the H&K firearms you saw them using in BR05
Hope this answered your question

I was in the 75th Ranger Regiment for 4 years. We had issue Beretta 92F's, no custom pistols like other SOCOM units.

Are you sure they were shooting USPs and not Mk23s?

Same thread going on at hkpro right now. Someone said they heard the narrator give an explanation that they were using USP 9s because they were unfamiliar to the contestants.
