Just curious if anyone else here owed a Ruger M77 MKII in 6.5X55 Swedish ?
I have one with the 'old style skeleton stock,' they don't make any more, and it is really a sweet gun. They still have that stock on their .17/.22 cal rifles, (but according to Ruger), that will end soon a well, and they will move on to the "new" style synthetic stock.
Anyway, just 'threw this out,' wondering if anyone else had this caliber, and how you like it etc. What game you have taken with it, etc.

Don't own one, but I want one in 6.5 x 55 or 257 roberts. Went on a quest for a low recoil deer rifle and got a 7mm 08 rem mountain that is nice, but no old school soul like the swede. 6.5 is better than a 260 rem because it can take a bigger bullet. Go to 24hourcampfire and research there.
good luck.

Yeah, get one if you can, they are realy a great caliber... i did not mean to sound misleading, if i did. I 'know' what it will do, and i reload for it, and shoot it and the 7mag more than my other guns, it is great for deer, antelope, and yep, even elk. The Scandinavians use it 'exclusively for moose and elk.' Many really under estimate this caliber.
Man, it was late, i was bored, and i just threw this out to see if others, and 'how many others' were having the same success with theirs, and if they were using it on larger game than deer, i was just curious, that's all.
if you can find one with the old stlye skeleton stock in the Ruger M77 by all means grab it, that are wonderful guns, you'll be glad you did. ;)

I went looking for a Ruger 6.5 last year and was told by Ruger that they don't make that caliber anymore. I was surprised because the basic MkII is listed in their catalog, but the info came straight from Ruger so I took it as fact. Maybe the high demand changed their minds?

I think the 260 rem is not selling as well and I see more 6.5x 55's interest out there.

Well, i will check on that Monday 'if i get time,' and get back with y'all. I have a friend that works at Ruger, in Prescott, AZ.
I know they DO NOT, make the old style skeleton stock any more. I did not think i would like it, but guys, if you can get a Ruger with the skeleton stock, get it ! The heaiver calibers are some what beefy in their punch, not bad, but different from the lighter stuff, but 30-06, on down, are great, and for the 7mag and up, just put a limb saver 'grind to fit,' on there. ;)
I have really fell in love with this 6.5X55, in fact i was just at the bench reloading some more 140gr. Hornady SST's 46/48grs. Reloader 22. col-- 3.025. These babies are very accurate.
I will try and find the time to check with the Ruger friend on this and get back..

Some of you guys wanted to know if Ruger was "still" producing rifles in this caliber 6.6X55. I mentioned that i have a good friend at Ruger and i would check and see.
Well, i called this morning, and was told, that the 6.5X55 "WILL" still be in production for "2006," in a wood stock "only" no synthetic, and in the M77 MKII.
As for 2007, and beyond, they could not comment!
If ya want one, better get it. It is a really great round!
There ya go, for whoever is interested. ;)

I've got a M-77 MK II in 6.5 Swede. What a great rifle! Mine happens to have a walnut stock, but it is a light, trim, beautiful thing. I used to be a .30-06 fanatic, but the older I get and the more I use the Ruger "Sweede", I'm beginning to think it is the best "all-around" caliber (for me!).

It is a good caliber, and again, people tend to underestimate the round. Mostly interent Bull, from forums talk.
It is a good all around caliber, from deer to moose. There are heaiver calibers, i own some of them, and shoot 'the mags' a lot. But this is a really versatile round. I really hope Ruger will keep this round going after 2006, i believe it is gaing momentum. We drove all the way into Ft. Worth, a while back to Cabela's and the ammo shelf there was "empty" with the 6.5X55 swede. The guy said it seems to be a real good seller. Maybe With a growing popularity, Ruger will keep it going.
Enjoy it, and good shooting.
