View Full Version : Any IDPA revolver shooters here?
If so, what is the prefered bullet for the S&W 625 in IDPA? I assume it's a round nose to make reloading the moon clips faster, but which cast bullet is prefered by most shooters? The Lyman 225 gr round nose and the Lee 228 gr round nose are 2 common avilable molds. What are you using? Thanks.

as I have gotten away from cast bullets altogether. I use the 230 grain plated Berry's bullets (round nose). These are inexpensive, accurate, and feed into the cylinders very nicely.
I know a lot of people who like Precision bullets because the moly makes them very slick.

230 plated indeed rule the roost. FMJ's are okay, but cost more and tend to be less accurate at these low-to-moderate velocities.
Some folks will run 230 cast rn (not much difference between commercial cast ones; don't really know anyone who casts their own). Swaged lead does not do will in 625's at major power levels.
Myself, I like a 250 rnfp cast bullet. Lets me use a nice roll crimp, and I can run 'em sloooow, 670-680 fps over 3.5 gr. Titegroup.

Thanks. Yea, I'm looking to run them at 165 PF. I understand that 165 is required in ESR. I am still looking for the ideal bullet that I can cast myself. If I water drop them from my alloy, they are plenty hard enough for the shallow 625 rifling.
