I've been shooting with my new T.H.E. extended, uncaptured tungsten guide rod for the past few weeks. I like it a lot.
With the stock rod brass had been hitting me in the face way too often. I even had one hot case pass between my glasses and my eye.
With the tungsten rod, brass is flying off to the right now.
Recoil and muzzle flip are less as well. I've been using an ISMI 15 poung recoil spring. Matt (Custom Glock Racing) is right about a lighter spring giving lass felt recoil and faster recovery (at least for 9mm).
Balance is now a little more muzzle heavy which I like, and with the extended length (34/35 and 17L/24 only), getting the springs into the gun is much easier.
The 17L is still running 100% reliably with the new guide rod, so I think it will stay.
Some good info here;
